Rev- life is what you make it. There are no poor jobs, just poor choices. Those who make the most of washing cars as an entry level job can make a very nice living when they own the high line luxury dealership....I'm just saying.  8-)
As of now they're on DOUBLE SECRET Probation!

An almost in the family gold medal tonight as the Australian winner of the women's modern pentathlon is the niece of a close high school friend of Mrs Oz.

Also, Kevin Bacon.

UST scrimmages RCTC today at 1:00 PM at O'Shaughnessy Stadium.  Anyone going to be able to make it?

Carleton scrimmages UWRF on Wednesday, when is everybody else having their scrimmages?

Go K Nights

Also, heard Carleton has one of the biggest teams it has had in years, they might even have a true travel roster this year.  Maybe things are finally starting to turn around at Carleton, to the point that maybe they will start to compete for the middle of the MIAC.

I see your point, but there are always exceptions. Crack whore...now that's a poor job (involving plenty of poor choices).

From an academic standpoint the two you mentioned are fantastic schools. St. Olaf has a good basketball program and it looks like they are trying to improve the football program. Hard to argue with choosing Carleton either. I am of the opinion that any MIAC school is a great choice. We toured St. Olaf and they really roll out the red carpet for prospective students. Carleton has a distinct east coast feel. You will probably know which school he likes when you visit each one.

Medowdale,  if your son is a rising Senior in HS then you should plan on spending this fall seeing various teams play and then deciding what schools you want to do an overnight with.  I'll echo OldAuggie's post on St. Olaf vs Carleton with one exception.  Academically Carleton is the more exclusive school and you'll need an ACT of 30 or above to be considered (33 is the sweet spot) so the better comparison is between Carleton and Macalester.  St. Olaf fits on the high end academically with the other MIAC schools in that an ACT of 27 is likely to get you in.

I preferred the coaching staff at Carleton my son liked St. Olaf better.  On school visits St. Olaf looks to have the more modern facilities (academic, housing) than Carleton.  As for football, St. Olaf is getting artificial turf this year.  I really like St. Olaf football having their facility (weight room, lockers, meeting rooms) right next to their stadium.  I also liked their weight room a lot - not flashy and new but lots of the correct equipment.  I believe St. Olaf is still trying to recover from their head coach (and lots of staff) leaving for Augustana a few years back.  It does look like they've been fairly successful in recruiting.  As for Carleton, they are working hard to get football numbers up (I believe they were down to 53 the year before last) but they, like Macalester are selecting from a very small pool and so I don't believe that they'll emerge from the bottom of the MIAC anytime soon.

My son was being recruited by all of the MIAC schools (and some D2's, plus Mt. Union and Wartburg) and his final list came down to Macalester, St. Olaf, Gustavus, St. John's, and St. Thomas.  Financially Gustavus and St. John's were the best value and he choose Gustavus.  Of course you're experience will be different.  Have fun with it.

But if you make it through that bad choice & then write a character such as Caroline Wakerfiled in Traffic or Marion Silver in Requiem For A Dream, that's about the best you could manage from such a bad choice....but it is possible  ;)

It is 12 days, 21 hours, 42 minutes, 56 seconds until Saturday, 3 September 2016 at 1:00:00 PM (St Cloud time).

Ok, I'm here slowly getting bored stiff. The last two weeks before the season starts are the longest of the year.

I found this page at goJohnnies.com. You can keep track of all the last mainstream news

Also, the SC Times has a $9.99/yr digital only subscription offer which I just went to sign up for but they won't accept international billing addresses for credit cards.  Bummer.
