Yeungling Traditional Lager.

Meh.  So much hype, but it's nothing special.  Bring some Dogfish Head!

They release this one twice per year, including early September. I tried it at the Dogfish Head pub in April and it's fantastic. Thoughts?

Dogfish Head is fantastic!  Enjoyed several varieties on a family trip to FL last spring.  Wish it were available around here.

I venture across the river to Casanova Liquor in Hudson on a semi-regular basis to stock up on Dogfish Head. One of my favorites from the East Coast.

The fact that PBR (weak, watery, tin-flavoured) became the hipster counter-culture status symbol pretty indicts the entire hipster movement.  When the wife and I got married in '92 back in GR a few of her Aussie buddies came for the wedding. They couldn't believe they could pick up a case of PBR for $6. "Weak as piss but it's cheap."
My buddy's mother in-law says something similar about Coors Light. She says "it's like making love in a canoe....yea,it's f*#%ing near water"  ;D

Any clarity from the UST scrimmage or any other source as to who the starting Tommie QB will be in week 1?
I've heard the job is Perra's to lose, but I'm not sure what weight was behind that suggestion.

OldAuggie

There are enough inaccuracies in this to substantiate the lack of respect given to my Auggies but to be clear I understand not many readers are Auggie fans.

A snippet from Kickoff sure to tease potential buyers I hope, for Pat's sake. The guy out east does not know crap about the MIAC other than SJU, UST and Bethel the usual Blue Bloods.

Everything else: The key to Augsburg's season will be how quickly it can rebuild on offense. Losing Scott and Maxwell (Tyler Maxwell perhaps? He played for two years and that was over about 3 years ago) are big blows. (Must be referring to Tyrell Martin?)  In the linebacking corps, senior Matt Shively is the lone returner (not true there is one more Clayton Byrd who is a starter).  Sophomore Tyler Hanson is back to handle the kicking duties...    (Really? Tyler Hanson is not on the team this year but he was on the roster last year as an underclassman..... busted!)

Haege is good at creating a smokescreen but this just blows apart your predicted finish of 4-6 for the Auggies. No chance they lose to Hamline, St. Olaf or Carleton. I see 5 wins minimum: Northwestern, Concordia WI, Hamline, St Olaf and Carleton. Toss in an upset over GAC,Concordia or Bethel and you have 6.

Let's look at Bethel. AUG beat them the last two years in row with Scott and Sonnenfeld. Last year on a dry field we beat Bethel and yes they did not have their starting QB. Seems to me that both teams are trending upward. Both teams will have a new QB. Right?. AUG defense which truly stuffed Bethel two years in a row when it counted is improved over last year.  Take them lightly if you want but they will surprise people this year.

Hamline who graduated their stud RB Austin Duncan, who WAS the offense, is predicted to go 5-5? What am I missing here?

We will all get a chance to see it next weekend. Augsburg 52 Northwestern 7.  (STO beat Northwestern last year 16-13 - AUG beat STO 57-35, STO's Strnad averaged 5.4 yds per carry last year vs Northwestern)

Overall, I give you a "C". Love this site and will always buy Kickoff, just trying to keep it accurate.

I want to laugh, OA, but the Auggies do get little respect.  Keep up the good fight.  :D

Go K Nights

I will laugh for you then Oz, because the Auggies will struggle against Northwestern, after having to replace their entire offense (Scott, Sonnenfeld, and Martin) seven spring practices and fall camp will not be enough to get everyone on the same page.  I would predict that Augsburg will lose at least 1 of the 3 games against the bottom of the conference this year.

Sorry about those couple of names but not sure who "the guy out east" is ... Can you clarify?

GoK -- if you read the Northwestern part of Kickoff, I'm not sure you'd agree with your assessment of the Augsburg-Northwestern game.

Now I am not going to say that I am a more intelligent man than a Carleton Grad (unless you are a Wartburg Knight, kinda smell like one) but I do work hard like all Auggies do. Back in 2012, the year after QB Marcus Brumm graduated from Augsburg, I had the same feeling as this year, maybe more anxious to be honest. What will we do?? How can we ever replace Brumm, he led the team to 6-4 in 2011. Then  a new Auggie QB appeared, a mere freshman, and launched a 4 year sleep depriving assault on MIAC defensive coordinators. The Auggies went 7-3 that year.

Clearly this is a typo -- earlier on the page, something you didn't copy and paste refers to Martin.

"The running back, who rushed for 304 yards and three touchdowns last season, will vie with junior James Newton to replace Tyrell Martin (1,022 yards rushing and 16 touchdowns in 2015) as the team's featured running back."

I'll fix the typo -- meanwhile, understand that reporting on this is done in July and can things change between July and August regarding returning players? Sure.

Got it. I did notice that you talked about Martin previously but I did not understand where the reference to Tyler Maxwell even came from. He was a notable player for sure but it was a while back. Thanks for fixing it! The guy from out east is the guy on your podcast recently and in the past. Maybe he is not from out east?

Keith is indeed from out east but he isn't the one who wrote MIAC previews. Here's a list of who wrote what:

Now don't put words in my mouth Dr. Coleman! My comment (about Keith) was a general comment, borne of frustration and related to his coverage of the obscure East Coast conferences and receiving more coverage than the MIAC and even the WIAC. Not about the Kickoff write up.
