It looks like I'll be carting some stuff back to DC after my trip to MN in late September. That means I'll be checking a bag with plenty of extra room on the outbound flight from DC. If anyone attending the Tommie/Johnnie game has any East Coast beer requests send me a PM.

I'd pack a Dogfish sampler.

Dogfish sampler it is then. Any other requests? These guys are a favorite local microbrewer: http://hardywood.com. I'm not sure if anybody's too familiar with them outside the region, though.

@OA

... I was just needling you a bit. The down south comment was in regards to Augsburg being all of 15 minutes south of Bethel. Definitely tongue in cheek.

Good luck to all the MIAC teams in non-con. We've held serve really well the last few years, love to see that continue. Bethel has a good stiff test from Dubuque in week 1. Wish it was week 2 so we'd have a chance to iron out any issues.

Oh got it. Yeah I can say with confidence that I will miss that one every time. Most guys would get that............

Good luck to Bethel and the rest of the MIAC.

Sending out the Bat signal to Chicago Tommie. Attention Chicago Tommie!

BDB will be attending the UW Stout-UST game on September 10th. Wondering if you will be there so we can compare the wads of cash in our pockets. Maybe you will see a nice St. Paul house you like on the way to the game and buy it outright, giving me a fighting chance.  ;)

I also want a picture with the seminarians dressed up like the construction guys. Maybe I can get some absolution to be good in the future.  ::)

Go K Nights

OA, I also thought 2 years ago when Zach Creighton took over at QB that Carleton would be going in the right direction, here was a kid who was a 3 sport athlete at Lakeville North which had a lot of success with him in all 3 sports (Football, Basketball, Baseball).  However, he has lead Carleton the opposite direction, and has killed the offense.  It will be interesting this year, it will be the 3rd O Coordinator in 3 years for Carleton.  Hopefully, this time they have it right and will be going in the right direction.

Go K Nights

From the sounds of things Carleton had a pretty good scrimmage against UWRF, moved the ball well against them, had much better defensive play.  Also, it sounds like some of the freshman have looked good so far.

FredFalcon definitely had a lot of good things to say about Carleton over on the WIAC board:

RF over Carleton 35-7 in scrimmage today. Sawyer Moon, Trayvon Hearns, Ben Beckman all looked good at qb. Not sure that Carleton will be competitive in MIAC this fall.

Carleton was rolling all their guys, including all their freshman DBs, UWRF went with their first team for the entire first half.  First team at UWRF vs. 3rd team (all freshmen) at Carleton, is going to show a big discrepancy.  Offensively wise Carleton didn't have 5 starters, maybe Fred Falcon should worry about competing in the WIAC!

He was the starter last year right? I thought that guy looked OK but I only saw about the last 2 minutes of the game.

Mr.MIAC

So it looks like UST experienced a 16% increase in applications this year, an upward trend that's expected to continue for the foreseeable future. UST athletics, especially football, receive a heck of a lot more media coverage nowadays. I wonder if this is having a positive impact on student recruiting. Are other MIAC schools experiencing increases as well?

All I know is my son gets 1-2 mailings from UST every week right now.  So the school is aggressively marketing to boot. SJU sends him about a mailing every 2 weeks. All the public schools from University of Iceberg to Alligator Tech send him emails constantly. It's alot to sift through for a kid.

My daughter has received a few mailings from UST.  Tried to use it as toilet paper but to no avail.  Makes a good fire starter however.

My oldest daughter was #1 in her class. She was admitted to U of Iowa even though she never applied and was also offered a scholarship after they received her transcript which we did send. I called the admissions people and they said they do admit kids like this these days and make them "prove" it with their senior transcript. She never visited Iowa and did not choose that school. She did not like that admissions practice and it made the school look desperate.  St. Scholastica also admitted her with $ after receiving her transcript.

Yes, kind of Spooky I agree BDB.
