Oz,

Did you tune in to watch the Cal game down under? Sounds like it was a high octane, entertaining example of american football for the Aussies!

I watched the first quarter before I left for a friend's house.  7-7 when I left. Did it finish with a big score?

Coming out of hibernation here...

The bar exam consumed my summer.

I can hear Janesvilleflash screaming from above, "Bar exam!?!  Why didn't anyone invite me?  I'm an A student at bar exams."

(And how did it go, Sam?  When do you find out your result?)

Hey Old Auggie, I see you. I thought you couldn't join me at the Stout/Augsburg scrimmage because you were going to the fair?

Anyway, I'm here. Your secondary might be a bit of an issue this year. The Blue Devils have gotten behind it on a regular basis. If they were keeping score it would be about 35-6 Devils.

Is Oscar Dorothy playing any QB for Stout?

I don't see anybody by that name on the roster.

Sorry...Oscar Johnson

Stout went 4 deep on QB's today from what I remember. They all wore the scrimmage red jerseys. I think from looking at his picture that Johnson did play some in the second half. As a freshman I'm not familiar with him. I see in his write up that he had some very impressive stats at Hopkins HS.

Worst test of my life. (But, that's how everyone feels, I think.)

I'd rather go back and do Army basic training all over again (twice) before I take the bar again.

Results come back in mid-September.

Well, Hawthorn limp into the finals in third place after being two games clear in first only four weeks ago.  We take on Geelong in the first final at the MCG in two weeks.

We're going for the four-peat but the team isn't sharp and hasn't dramatically improved during the year. They are vulnerable to being out worked, particularly by opposition players that don't have the ball and who are running hard for position. We'll see what happens but it will take a minor miracle to win the fourth.

Also, good luck Sam.

The SC Times Auggie preview:

Thanks for posting this OZ. Looks like a young team and Guyton might be the right type of player to keep the Auggie offense going with lower expectations than the last 4 years for sure. Somewhat discouraging that they only scored 1 TD yesterday according to BDB but I am sure Guyton did not pay a lot. They have a good amount of young talented receivers but they need to get the timing and route running down soon. Running backs are fine IMO, Bolton actually ran well as a downhill clock killer last year. He is tough. Looks like a year for the young guys to get some playing time. Guessing they were playing around with young guys at different positions on defense but they need to stop teams. Scrimmage against a WIAC team and you get what you asked for.

Did anyone tune in to the NDSU-Charleston Southern game last night? #1 vs. #6 in the season non-conference opener. That would be like Mount Union hosting UW-Oshkosh in the non-conference opener. NDSU prevailed 17-10 in OT.
Last year NDSU opened with Montana & lost with 2 seconds on the clock. 5 national titles in a row shows that playing tough non-conference opponenets helps both with winner and the loser in a tight contest. Charleston Souther is a good squad & should be o.k. if the injury bug doesn't bite them.
As of now they're on DOUBLE SECRET Probation!

It was a heck of a game. I enjoyed it immensely while my wife just sighed at the implications. Despite the excellent game and effort, CSU took a real beating and a few of those injuries could be long term. Not sure opening that way is going to pay off for them.

Another item of note:
U$T has only 23 sophomores listed on their roster.  Does that seem low to anybody else?
SJU has 60...which I think is about 15-20 more than a team might need.

Those numbers are low for a soph class.  35-40 would be more the norm.  Heard there were more than a few kids that tapped out during camp these last two weeks.

Any idea how many freshman they had last year and how many actually returned to start practice this year?

No idea.  Counting freshmen is often a challenge.  Some kids are invited to camp, some are invited to start practice when school starts.  Some dress for home games, some don't.  Some are listed in the program, some aren't.
