Anything of interest from QB Club last night?

A few things, nothing major. Fenske should get the start, but Perra will see time. Neither can punt as well as Gould, but we may see them give it a shot.

The coaches at my table indicated that our 3rd string QB (Gabe Green) and RB (Josh Parks) are both very impressive and talented, even if they may not see much time this year.

I may be able to address specific questions, but those were my biggest takeaways.

Apparently Teddy has suffered a "serious" knee injury in a non-contact drill...if he's done, at least we won't have a playoff game to have our hearts broken in...
There's always Johnny Football or Tebow.

Makes no deference. TB can't throw downfield. The best he would ever be is a mid-strength first backup. Of course, that's enough to get a start at QB for the last 15 years but not enough to make the Vikings legit.

Just read the SCTimes live chat and found something interesting:

Comment From Irish
Tyler Hartigan, a transfer 6'3" WR from Rosemount who was Erdmann's go-to receiver his senior year, is on the roster. Is he in the mix at WR?

Frank Rajkowski
I know he's there. I really can't say how much time he might see Saturday.

I don't know if the WR is number 1 or 6 from Rosemount but they both got great separation from their defenders and gave Erdmann some clear throws in his Hulu video.  I hoped way back last Spring/Autumn that he would get one of them to Johnnieland. Good news.  Maybe the old battery will have some great chemistry.

EDIT: I realise it's most likely the other way around, ie, Hartigan helped get Erdmann to SJU but the point is they're together again. As Forrest Gump says, I hope they go together like peas and carrots.

Appreciate the update. Sounds like several teams in the MIAC are in the same boat. For this Saturday, Gustavus is going to play Veldman and Archer; Erdmann and Alvord will see time for SJU; and Fenske and Perra will get snaps for UST. I reckon the coaches want to see how these guys perform in a game before they make their final decision.

Any word on who the starting CBs will be? Based on what I've seen, it looks like seniors Michael Alada and Chris Pierson are with the first string.

I might be wrong, but I thought Dimitri Williams, now up at NDSU, was Erdmann's favorite target at Rosemount.  Regardless, Hartigan is a nice sized received at 6'3".

Those names were mentioned, with a discussion of that being a big hole to fill. I don't recall 100% if those were the anticipated starters or not.

Williams if I recall was more of a speed guy...played running back, slot and wr at times.  My gut tells me that Hartigan and Williams were two of his favorite targets.  As much as Gary has been quoted that he likes to establish the running game I'm guessing SJU might try to soften up teams by establishing the running game by throwing the ball around a bit.  With Erdmann and slew of 6'2" and 6'3" receivers it would be nice to put the ball up in the air and show teams that the passing game is once again a threat.

The biggest factor working against that logic is the graduation of Sam Sura and the need to establish a run game and identify a back or two that can get the job done.  If I had to guess which guys will get the most carries on Saturday I would say, Barber, Essler, and Taylor.  I also believe that the coaches would like to see Brice Johnston, Dusty Krueger, and Derek McLaughlin.   However if the passing game puts up big numbers the first three weeks of the season teams like U$T and BU will be forced to scheme for it and that should help SJU find success on the ground...either I'm onto something or on something.  Time will tell

That's a false choice. You could easily be both. Likely even.

faunch, I like how you think. I would say that the deep ball to Clark would be something they would like to test out against CSS. You don't replace a guy like Sam Sura, but "you dance with the one that brung ya" aka running back by committee. I would venture to guess though out the season there will be 5 different individual game leading rushers and 5 different game leading receivers. Throw to the guy who isn't covered and run where they aren't covering. I think it will be an interesting year.
As of now they're on DOUBLE SECRET Probation!

Oh, man, are you guys getting me excited for this season. If we have a chance to see AirJohnnie (tm) again then that will be spectacular. There have been a few gloriously entertaining seasons with that game plan.

Last great SJU passer???  I know who gets my vote.

Will Erdmann break any of these records?  They are some fairly gaudy numbers.

I understand that political discourse is frowned upon here however here are two perspectives on the "anthem" that are new to me.  Maybe CK was actually making a broader point that we all should consider...in the third stanza of the "Star Spangled Banner" it appears the Mr. Key openly celebrated the killing of slaves. Considering a large number of NFL players are African-American maybe playing the anthem at games should be at least reconsidered.

Please, faunch, not this week and not on these boards.  I have made my fair share of mistakes here for which I have apologised.  Trust me, your post is another one.

Hey guys and gals,

I won't be watching too much D3 football this weekend as my younger sister died in her sleep. Her husband found her yesterday morning. This is a shocking and very unexpected death in my family, she had just turned 57 last week. My wife and I will be on the road to New York state in just a little while for the funeral on Friday.
