In all seriousness I could foresee U$T finding / getting $$$ from some wealthy alums to buy a parcel of land at the old Ford Motor plant and build a turf /dome facility.  SJU will soon have one and U$T doesn't really have enough space to build something that large.
Off campus football stadium....? UST gets their students to turn out only when SJU comes to town & that's it. I don't think they'd get them off campus even to see the Johnnies......

The home game turnout is much much better than it used to be. The home stands were relatively full last week. Much moreso than they would have been when I was in school. But off-campus stadium is a very bad, no good idea. And Domed stadium might be an even sillier idea for a D3 team.

I don't believe I said domed stadium or off campus stadium...but rather another a turf and domed facility similar to what SJU is building.  SJU / CSB will have a huge advantage when football, soccer, baseball and softball teams can train and practice indoors in the winter.
The last I checked, the old Ford plant wasn't on the UST campus. ;)

I think he's not actually suggesting a stadium where they would play games, but rather a separate practice facility that would be domed, which happens to be off-campus.

Go K Nights

jamtoTommie, you can't make Johnnies understand things that are logical, like an off-campus practice facility, they read into one thing, and then they don't have the capacity to understand anything else.  That is why they get so many fans at their games, they can't figure out how to do anything else, all they understand is SJU football, and they can only think back to the great times of SJU.  Also they can only get jobs in the St. Cloud area after school, because fellow Johnnies are the only people that can stand people from SJU enough to hire them.  Ramler couldn't keep a job that he could have helped turn a program around for because he only knew Johnnie football and couldn't wrap his mind around anything else, had to try and do everything the Johnnie way!

The Tommies could pop a dome up over the south campus soccer field if they wanted to. It is field turf.

There is also a pretty large piece of undeveloped land on the south campus along the river, but it has a certain charm to it, and the neighborhood would lose there collective mind i am sure, if it was ever even suggested to be developed on.

UST attendance has improved a lot over the years. There is nothing scientific about D3 attendance. A lot of times its an SID taking a scan of the crowd and swagging it. Numbers start to look inflated, at some schools quite significantly, when real numbers get reported for purchased tickets during the playoffs, even when playoff crowds look similar in size to some regular season games. There are a few SID's out there that might like to "juke the stats."

Wasn't there talk of putting tennis courts a few years ago that was met with opposition from residents?

In fact, that happened a few years ago when an idea was floated use that land to replace the tennis courts lost with the redevelopment of the SW corner of Cretin & Grand. The general charge was that UST shouldn't dare do something with their private land that the neighbors use as their own personal park.

Forgot all about that. Yes. It was quite the uproar.

It's a great piece of real estate, and it is nice that it is untouched. One of the few spots on that side of the road along the river. It just doesnt get used much by neighbors or students.

OzJohnnie

Well, the run comes to an end. The Hawks lost to the Bulldogs and the streak of four Grand Final appearances and three victories screeches to a halt on the hallowed MCG turf.

Nasty crime/scandal at Carthage (last week's Bethel opponent). One troubling aspect is the use of names in the article in the newspaper. If true, it will come out eventually, if not, could ruin a reputation or two.
