I think your biggest problem, jtT, will be parking and then getting up to the stadium. With all the construction I think even more parking will be pushed down to the fields. And then with the tailgating in Flynntown all the foot traffic will be coming up from that way. No one will be lining up at the eastern entrances by the science lots.

I guess I'm saying, I would be most worried about parking and getting up to the stadium. That little traffic jam could add 30 minutes to your trip.

Last week at Homecoming the Flynntown was full by 9 am which I'm guessing will be the same or earlier Saturday.  My guess is that the large grass lot gets filled by 11 / 11:30 am which means late comers will be relegated to the road.  I checked google maps and the walk from the I-94 overpass to the campus will take about a half hour.   I would suggest throwing the bike(s) rack on a vehicle just in case one gets stuck parking that far away from campus.  There will likely be a cluster-f-ck at the I-94 exit to St. John's as well.

Been meaning to ask...how was the video feed of the Olaf / SJU game last weekend?  I'm not making it up to the big show on Saturday because my daughter has fall state softball and I've got an Oktoberfest party Saturday evening.

Has anyone ever parked at St. Ben's and taken the Link over to St. John's for a game?  Might be a way to avoid some traffic headaches.

Video was fine but the audio was shot. I tend to listen to VOJ on TuneIn anyways so I've always got his call regardless of where the game is. Video on silent and TuneIn turned to WDGY.

I talked to one person that did that last weekend...sounds like it worked out ok for them.  The biggest issue this Saturday might be catching he the bus back to CSB.  I'm guessing it will be mob after the game.

In regards to targeting I think it is a rule that has to be put in place to take away the hits the game is trying to get rid of. Defensive players (or offensive in some circumstances) need to realize this and absolutely cannot go high on opposing players. If they do, they run the risk of being ejected. Don't put yourself in that position where a ref has to make the call. To eliminate these types of hits completely, the ejection piece must be in there. Tackle the thighs. Period. If you tackle the thighs, you won't get ejected. If you go higher, you run the risk. This is the route the game is taking, like it or not. Targeting rule is a point of emphasis in even in high school this season. Adjust or hit the showers.

That's all well and good however the play in the St. Olaf / St. John's game was not a high hit.  The ball was thrown low and the contact was made when the defensive back was attempting to break up the play.  It was a hard and loud hit but from my point of view did not warrant a penalty or ejection.  I would love to see a replay.

That's the issue. I've seen multiple targeting calls when the defender was going low. But at game speed. You can be coming in aiming for the waist and the WR has to adjust to a low throw. There was a FBS targeting call week one where the defender would normally have been hitting the guy in the knees. But the offensive player had to crouch to catch it a split second before the hit. Result ... targeting. What's a defender to do??

Again, the issue is the immediate ejection (especially at levels with no replay).

Screw ST Johns and ST be Dick's...it's TOMMIES  Johnnys week!!!!

Maybe everyone else got this ChicagoTommie reference right away, but I couldn't wrap my brain around it. "ST be Dick's." WTF?

And then I got it. ST be Dick's = The College of St. Benedict in ChicagoTommie speak. I need that CT translator we used to have around here.

It is just what one learns to expect from someone affiliated with St. Tom-ASS or I guess that would be St. Tom-A$$! 8-) ;)

How early would you suggest we need to get in the stadium to get decent seats? We'll be arriving early for tailgating

I would suggest getting in the ticket line by 8:30AM.

We will be at our tailgating spot by 5:30AM. There will be people with RVs setting up tailgating on Friday afternoon/evening. It's going to be out of control if the weather cooperates. Long range forecast is for afternoon thunderstorms and temperatures in the 70's. Can you imagine if they have to clear the stadium for lightning?
We aren't going to be up there until 9:30am, but we'll plan to send somebody to get tickets while we get the tailgate setup.
Tickets are GA though (and they say they won't sell out), so I imagine we need to get in to the stadium at a decent time so as not to end up standing? Crowded in somewhere less than ideal (like by a bunch of smelly Johnnies who will be rude and angry when things don't start to go there way)
The visiting stands didn't completely fill up until maybe 30 minutes before kickoff last year.  But I'm guessing everybody who missed out on a seat last year might learn their lesson and come earlier?

Perfect. Thanks. I'm guessing with no SC on the Road there are going to be a lot fewer UST students, and probably fewer Tommies in general. I was figuring we'd move in around noon. Or maybe have a couple go in earlier to snag some seats.
2015 National Runner-up and currently ranked #4...I guess still not enough of a reason to support the team?   ;D  Might make for an easier day for the Stearns County Sherifs Department and detox.

Apologies for not mentioning this earlier. Kudos to the CSB/SJU team for their success at the great Minnesota get together this year. The Johnnies took first place in the FFA Tractor Driving contest and the Bennies brought home a blue ribbon in the Open Dairy Cattle event. Congrats! Know that even if the Tommie/Johnnie game doesn't go well for you all this year, you're still winners...
I'll assume this is your attempt at sarcasm & ridicule. As a former FFA member and state officer, I'm proud of my affiliation with that organization as well as my SJU diploma. And having grown up on a dairy farm (though I never showed cows-I just milked them), I am also proud of being a farm boy.
It appears you have little regard for e

Having grown up in rural ND as well as having attended UST maybe I can bridge the gap here so we're all on the same page, especially since Rev's assertions have put Bennie in a bad mOOOOOOOd. My agrarian roots led me into several livestock pavilions at the Minnesota State Fair over Labor Day weekend and I can assuredly say that NO Bennies took home a blue ribbon in ANY category, including dairy.

I think the thing that is really unfortunate, though, is that they didn't even place.

A: She was trying to make Apple juice  ;)

Question about the Travel Information for Saturday's game.  What is an "unsanctioned" bus?

On the press release is states:  - No unsanctioned buses will be allowed on campus.

Are fans / students from Purple Empire allowed to rent "party busses."  Is SJU only sanctioning busses that have been approved in advance?  I know it's been a problem in the past when a busload or two of underage or even 21 and over students rolls onto campus and the students roll down the stairs of the bus.  I've even heard that there have busses turned away.  Are they still allowed to park on the frontage road on the north side of I-94?
