Watching the Tommie-Johnnie replay on stretch right now. Quite entertaining listening to VOJ and company.

In the 4th quarter, UST was called for a personal foul with 7:36 remaining in the game, hitting Erdmann out of bounds and one of the color guys (I think, I don't think it was VOJ) observed that one of the SJU coaches was getting in the ear of the official, noting "consider who it is, the little man in white across the way" at which point the producer wisely fades out the volume so that the coach criticism can't be heard.
Who was he making a reference to and what is the story there?

How are you watching it? I didn't think they archived games.
I think the Little Man comment was directed at Caruso.  I was listening on the radio and wasn't really following the commentary that well.  I do know that most of the radio team was pissed about the hit.  Consider that last year U$T knocked out Nick Martin on two occasions.  I'm glad I didn't see it or I probably would have been more angry than I already was.  I understand that U$T is coached to hit hard and play through the whistle.  Some people might view that as playing dirty and trying to intimidate opponents.

UST stay at #4. SJU drops to #10, which is a fine result. I had hoped they would stay at 9th but you can't really complain.

That wouldn't have surprised me, but all the refs and action was right there on the SJU sideline, possibly with an SJU coach in the refs ear. I suppose it's possible there was something going on with Coach C on the UST sideline off-camera. I'm well aware of those knocks and criticisms of Caruso and UST in general. I may take the opportunity to ask a question about that at Plum's tomorrow night, although I could probably answer the question for him in Caruso-speak.

A quick diversion:  It was an incredibly good, hard, fierce and fast contest between the Western Bulldogs and the Greatern Western Sydney Giants on Saturday night.  The contest swung one way and then the other all evening with the result still 50/50 until under a minute remained.  The winner won a berth in the Grand Final to play Sydney and these two teams played like the loser would be shot. It will probably be the best game of the year.

You make a really good point here. On the positive side, the Johnnies didn't give up and it was a nerve-racking 4Q, at least for this Tommie. On the negative, I was a little surprised that many Johnnies/Bennies at the game seemed to give up on the Johnnies in 3Q. I'm recovering from an injury and had to trek over to Sexton Hall to pickup some medication at halftime. I walked back toward the stadium midway through 3Q and groups of Johnnies/Bennies were streaming out of the place. Many were frustrated and spewing the typical Tommie hate narrative (Tommies Suck, Tommies are Classless, etc.). The thing that took me a little aback, though, was that more than a few were pissed off and openly hating on the Johnnies. I always thought that sort of thing didn't really happen with Johnnies fans. Maybe you guys need to send them back for more indoctination.  ;)

I think you can chalk this up to drunk college kids at both schools.  My two sons were returning from the Milaca Mega Meet, thus making me leave the game right after SJU scored to make it 27-21 to go pick them up at the high school.  While walking to my car, I couldn't believe how many CSB/SJU and UST students were not even in the stadium.  One UST girl said to our family "We kicked your a$$ today" in front of my 3rd and 5th grader.  Nice (I am sure she is a nice girl, it was the booze talking.)  I just smiled and said it is a 6 point game now, you better get back in there, could be an exciting ending.  It didn't even matter to those I told.  I think many students see this as an opportunity to drink all day and see old friends at their rival schools, the game is secondary to many.

She was a bitter sister of a 4th-grade Buffalo basketball player.

Isn't that interesting?  Where did you get that URL?  It's not visible from Stretch if you go straight to the Johnnie portal.  Did you save it on Saturday so you could watch later?

No. From the main Stretch page, I selected "On Demand" and it was an available option yesterday. I see now that it isn't listed. I pulled it up last night to start watching and then finished it up today.

If you click on it now it still plays the game.  SIDS across the MIAC will be scrambling to get Stretch to prevent deep linking post the game in order to keep video limited to the last three games (or such) as per MIAC rules.

I watched the vid through the Johnnie choir singing the fight song.  I must say I'm torn by that tune.  One, it's the alma mater's official fight song, but two, I went to St John's when Trading Places was still on my mind.  And every time I hear it I think of this:

(Oh, the commedy of the 80's.  Political correctness has not yet destroyed all humor.  And there was a lot of laugh that could be had without the cheap 'f' this and 'f' that.  Sigh.  The old days.)

I think the audio was faded in order to hear the referees call of the penalty.  I believe the guy that made the comment you referenced is Mike Carr.  He also said "he's always in the ear of the officials" and regarding the hit said "it was a clear intent to injure the quarterback."  If I'm correct Mike currently is or has been a high school football official.   It was a cheap hit with what looked like a helmet to the knees and was about 5 yards out of bounds.

Who is he referencing as being in the ear of the officials? (If not Caruso. Given that it's the radio broadcast overlayed with the video feed, I think sometimes my inclination is to conflate the two and assume the radio folks are talking about what I'm seeing, when that is probably not the case).

Naturally, I won't speculate on any intent to injure, but UST has had issues with late hits and personal fouls that needs to get cleaned up. Coach C and various players have indicated that Caruso has chewed plenty of ass for these penalties. I think it is also linked to the general aggressive style of play.

I think the commentators in the booth were talking about the SJU coaches discussion with the officials.  Mike is on the sideline and may have been seeing things differently.
