I was wondering if I could get a clarification/opinions for MIAC fans. I was left a little confused (admittedly, that's not exactly a foreign condition for me) by this week's D3football.com podcast. I believe Keith mentioned that Jordan Roberts is likely out for the year. My impression has always been that he's a pretty big deal. A D-I transfer, right? And his numbers from last year seem like a pretty big deal. Yet, Keith said something to the effect that "But they haven't missed a beat".  So i guess my question is, how big of a deal is Jordan Roberts? Will his loss matter to the Tommies in the long run or will they just plug in guys and not miss a beat come playoff time?

UST is extremely deep at running back.  Trettle backed up Roberts to start the year, but now he's starting.  Parks was 3rd string (also a D-1 transfer), but now he's 2nd.  Really, they're both getting tons of reps and the offense is showing signs of gelling.  They're both different backs than Roberts, who is a fairly big, bruising runner.  Trettle and Parks are not at all afraid to get the tough yards up the middle, but their skills are more in their speed and shiftiness.

In short, Roberts was a really big deal last year, but there's not much fall off at all with the combo of Trettle and Parks.

Thanks, WM4. Good to know. It's always good to have depth at running back. That can be a brutal position. Feel badly for Roberts, though. Always hate to hear of injuries. These guys work so hard for the love of the game, I hate to see anyone get hurt. Speaking of injuries, I know Keith mentioned Erdmann as well. Hope he feels better and recovers quickly!

Boys of Fall, just saw your response. Love the Gary Bertier reference! And what a great movie!

They remind me of bikers these days, the vast majority of Harley owners are not in a biker gang but aspire to look like a true biker gang member.

This may be one of the stranger comments I have ever read on here. You wear leather for protection. If you choose not to wear a helmet, and you have some hair, a lot of people use a do rag to keep the bugs out of their hair. Boots for protection, sunglasses for protection from the sun and to reduce glare.

To say most people that ride are playing Halloween as LA gang members is simply ridiculous.
I knew that would ruffle someone's feathers! Fair comments for sure BDB.

I agree with BDB in that OA made some sweeping generalizations. Of course bikers wear leathers, do-rags, boots, and sunglasses for protection and cleanliness. That being said, I think there's a kernel of truth in OA's comment. The aforementioned accoutrements come in a wide variety of colors and styles. Those who ride sport bikes seem to embrace diversity, since you see them decked out in all colors of the rainbow, without a uniform style.

Harley riders tend to be far more uniform in the style they adopt. I just googled "bikers harley davidson" and the vast majority of riders are wearing leathers, boots, do-rags, and sunglasses in black. Many riders or their bikes are adorned with a variety of patches and other insignia, which is a practice rooted in the military. These insignia often include the Iron Cross, flames, skulls, crossbones, birds of prey, the ace of spades, the eight ball, various types of weaponry, the grim reaper, etc. Many of these insignia are accompanied by brief non-conformist statements (e.g. Don't Tread on Me).

So Harley riders tend to have a style that includes lots of black, the elements listed above, and non-conformist statements. It's safe to assume they opt for certain accoutrements for protection and cleanliness, but also to project this style. What is this style meant to convey? I'm not sure, but it's definitely not sunshine and rainbows. Are Harley riders trying to emulate biker gangs? In the big scheme of things, neither Harley Davidson nor biker gangs have a long history so it's hard to determine who's currently driving the style.

My guess is that biker gangs have become somewhat romanticized, sort of like pirates, gunslingers, and mafiosi who were once viewed with contempt and now appear as movie heroes. They've come to represent a way of life, including certain attitudes and principles, that some people find attractive. Harley Davidson has realized that these people buy motorcycles so the company's marketing perpetuates this style. There's my two cents...

PS: OA, thanks for recognizing my service. It's not necessary, but it's appreciated. As for my profession, I'm currently working as a Starbucks barista with hopes of making it big in comedy. I use this board to test new material...   8-) ;)

If it takes you that much text to explain why you think an imaginary person you don't know, doing something you don't appreciate, is a poser then I reckon your argument is weak by definition.

Oz,
I learned years ago that any post over 5 lines long is just blather and not worth reading. I haven't read one since, haven't missed anything worthwhile and had hundreds of hours of time for more meaningful things.
Absolute truth.  :P

I'll keep it short and sweet this time:

1. I know Johnnies are slow readers, but it's archived so you have plenty of time to go back for more if it's too much for one session.
2. On not reading long posts with the presumption it's a waste of time, sometimes ignorance is bliss. Wasn't this an SJU motto or something during the Gagliardi era?
3. It's a new day in the MIAC--the Caruso era. Unlike the Johnnies of old, you'll find that Tommies embrace little things like multisyllabic words, compound sentences, structured arguments, facts, etc.
4. I'm thinking we should expect far less folksiness and higher levels of performance moving forward.

I would venture a guess that he's not been cleared, but even if they're on the fence, why risk him in a game that they had better not need him?

Speaking of the UST depth at RB

Great article!...My son who plays UST reflects the same feeling about the program, its nice to see that these kids, especially D1 transfers, realize the strength of the locker room culture of team and program. The team really looks out for team, even the guys on the 3rd scout team love their roll, and understand they are making the team better because they can see what they can contribute to the other players and the other players respect them for it.  Remember this is d3 football and most kids at this level play football because the really love the game.

Any news on when Erdmann got the concussion? I know rube trolled a bit with the UST late hit / SJU coaching fracas being it, but that didn't look up high. Also, he went back in the game after that blow for 1-2 more offensive drives. WIth concussion protocols these days I would have a hard time imagining getting back in the game after that.

I'll reiterate my speculation that it was on a sack where he took a really solid shot from an unblocked blitzer (I know - which one?). I think the specific play I'm remembering was the Hausman sack, which was SJU's last possession and Erdmann's third-to-last snap of the day.

That makes more sense. Thanks
