How bad of a drop was it for Concordia on the near-interception right before the winning TD? Should have been made or was it a tough play?

Cobbers must lead MIAC in brutal losses past 10 years. The Gearman bomb. There were a few other SJU ones, all of them in Concordia. This one. And the most infamous vs Bethel in 2012 with the kid coming onto the field after Cobbers had clinched, drawing a flag that extended game and led to Royals win.

But yeah, as much as I enjoy Tommie losses, this was good for SJU, right? Say Cobbers had one and then Tommies win out. Then say SJU beats Concordia at end of the year. In 3-way, Concordia would have gotten automatic bid, right, with longest time since playoff appearance? And Tommies get in over SJU.

Concordia appears to be improving but I'm wondering if the Tom$ came in a little flat today.  Should they drop out of the top 4 because of this game?

Probably not because #5 lost. Even though Oshkosh played #2 UW-W very tough on the road, the Tommies had a pretty substantial lead in terms of poll points. I doubt there will be much change at the top of the D3 poll this week.

Cobbs made their fair share of mistakes but there was some questionable officiating throughout the game.  The "white hat" was slow all day and then threw the penalty on Herzog after the two-point conversion.  From our vantage point he was throwing the ball back to the official.  The official wasn't looking and it hit him and he overreacted. What would Herzog have to be upset about?  They just scored on a miracle play against a top 5 team. Unless I missed something, I believe this was very questionable - especially considering the situation.  What's really bothersome is that Coach Caruso was allowed to sprint to the five yard line to scream at not just one official but seemingly all of the officials after the goal-line stand.  He was simply escorted to the sidelines w/o a flag.  Maybe they are scared of him, but at no point does it make sense to allow a coach 25 yards of leeway to scream at officials.  Selective enforcement causes problems.  Regardless, it was an exciting game.

Just par for the course.

On the UST side and it seemed that Herzog had been doing a ton of talking and was warned once after a long run when he got up and shoved one of our LBs. When they were stopped on the 2pt conversion it appeared he said something again because the white hat immediately threw the flag. I don't think it had much to do with throwing the ball to the ref, but who knows. REALLY like Herzog as a player, tough as nails, just got a bit too amped for homecoming against UST. Also, might be time for the Cobbers to evolve away from the triple option. They're huge, no need to IMO. It was effective at times, sure, but I think they have the guys to put up some serious points.

I didn't get to see UST/Bethel live in 2010, but I'd say it's up there with any I've ever seen or been a part of. Dudes were getting mauled. Looked like Parks was going through the concussion test on the sideline too, so Waldvogel played a few snaps at RB again.

The Concordia announcers were pretty sure the flag was for something Herzog said and not for tossing the football back to the ref. UST had Herzog wrapped up on the 2 point try but didn't go down and they continued to push him after the whistle and I think that's what Herzog was upset about. Ended up being a huge penalty as UST got the ball around their 40 after the kickoff with about 30 seconds left.

It looks like yesterday's UWW/UWO game has been recorded as the new high watermark for attendance--17,353. I'm thinking the Tommies and Johnnies should band together next year to push the record above 20,000.

Apparently the Cobbers actually won 21-0?  https://youtu.be/efT9NfYH0KU. Don't know why everyone was so excited about the hook and ladder late in a 14-0 game.  Kind of rubbing it in at that point.

Can you believe the massive heartache the Vikings are setting us up for?  I don't think a Vikes squad has shown this degree of hopeful competence since the late 90's. When they blow this the pain will be extraordinary.

When I shoot, I aim for center mass.
And don't stop until the target is neutralized 😀😀😀😀

Hey, kubiak. It's great to see you drop in. I hope all is well. It's been ages. You keeping the bad guys on the run?

That was a legit crowd yesterday. Impressive.

Gonna be tough to get 20K at UST. Maybe next time at SJU but it'll be tough to get 20,000 people onto campus. (In the stadium, less difficult.)

I don't know. I saw them when they were in Charlotte a couple of weeks ago and they looked pretty legit to me. Admittedly it wasn't last season's Panthers, but the Viking defense looked really strong and the offense was solid, especially the supposedly weak o-line. Just my opinion of course, but keep Bradford healthy and I think the rest of the NFC is in for some headaches.

Rent U of Minnesota Stadium, hype the hell out of it (maybe even bands before and after), and you might get 30-40,000! ;)

Without even the bands, Michigan let Slippery Rock host somebody at the Big House - I'm pretty sure it was a D2 record attendance.  (Just because of the name, Michigan announcers had been announcing Slippery Rock scores for years before the game.  I suspect that 90% of the crowd were Ann Arbor area fans, not fans specifically of Slippery Rock or whoever it was they played.  I suspect Slippery Rock won, since it was a de facto 'home game'!)

The new MLS stadium they are supposedly going to build in the Twin Cities would be a nice venue to try to break the record in. Think the seating will be in the 20,000+ range. Not a fan of taking the games off campus though. Love the two stadiums in this rivalry. I remember when the MIAC used to have dome day and UST/SJU played there a couple times I think. Was very sedate.

Lost in all the fireworks was Saturday was the big time throw that Fenske made to win the game. A 25 yard corner route with the ball thrown on a rope to a small window on the sideline. Kid was 22/30 for 370 against a stout Cobber D.

Also, the stats for SJU's backup have been incredible the last two weeks. hard thing to do to step into that role, after battling for the starting job.

Both Fenske and Alvord had momentum against them with D1 transfers coming into their programs. And both, in different circumstances, have shined when there teams have needed them most this year.
