Target Field Tommie-Johnnie is official.

I'm not planning on seeing any attendance records being broken.  Not with Target Field charging $10 for students and $15-35 for everyone else.  Students are hard pressed to show up when they have to pay. (See NCAA Playoffs).

Though I will do my best to get there with my family, I'm going to make a call on this one and conclude that the "big game atmosphere" is going to be...

I agree -- price point is probably too high to set a record with.

I'm going to say, given the prices, that 8,000 at this game is going to be a stretch--a big stretch.

The MIAC Showcase was before my time. Anyone remember what the Dome used to charge for admission for those games?
I think it was $10 per ticket.  That is a guess but I will  look in the box in my closet for the program which I still have and it has a sweet picture of John G. when he was a lot younger that is on the page for the SJU/UMD game.

If the past special event soccer games at Target Field, TCF Bank Stadium, and US Bank Stadium are any indication, there will be a "4 tickets for $40" deal offered when we get closer to the game.

Yeah, maybe I can get in those sweet section 101 seats.  ::)

It not only allows us to highlight both proud institutions and our tremendous history, but it also lets us bring the game to a much larger game-day audience."

It is clear that we haven't won the war on drugs.

It's like watching NYC FC play their home games at Yankee Stadium. I've had friends that have gone and described it as atrocious. Same with the Pinstripe Bowl. At least it isn't like when Northwestern played Illinois a few years ago at Wrigley, where whoever was on offense always had to go the same way since there wasn't enough room behind the end zone to be safe. I hate gimmick games. Of course for NYC FC it's not a gimmick. It's just MLS got so excited to pair with some rich owners they forgot every bit of common sense and knowledge they should have used.

Target Field Tommie-Johnnie is official.

Wow - just wow.

But, now I want to complain. Was the MIAC even involved in this deal? What about the U of M? Of course, what I am referring to is the clash of games already being played that day in the region. Why isn't this a 4:00 (4:10) pm start? Or even a 6:00 (6:10) pm start, better yet? The place has lights, for crying out loud. The MIAC has a chance to showcase its wares and three fourths of the fans will most likely continue to support their teams on their fields. Having a huge venue like this could have had more "bang for the buck" by making this game start later so that everyone in the conference could come out to the game.

I'll get off my soapbox now.

I say all the following as someone who will go to the game, and will most likely make a day/afternoon of it down the Warehouse District/North Loop. With that disclaimer out of the way...

Seeing the seating layout (particularly for the visitors) and ticket price, can we all agree this isn't a good idea and doesn't enhance the rivalry in anyway? Give the Twins are playing a role in this we shouldn't be surprised that the execution is far from flawless.

By my count the visitors will have 10 sections of seating, compared to only 8 for the home team. If nothing they did get that portion right in terms of what the ratio of fans will be.

Thanx Faunch - I couldn't find quickly what the situation for the Gophers was, nor if the Cobbers would be playing at home that weekend. In an ideal situation, all the MIAC teams except the Johnnies and Tommies, could play that afternoon, get cleaned up and enjoy watching their peers under the lights. (Even if they nick those attending to turn on the lights.)

Though I'll always be a fan of the classic red jersey/white pants combo, I think the red/red look is pretty sharp!

It does look sharp.  One question though...is that an 11 on his helmet when he's wearing the 9 jersey?

Good question, Hawk. It is an 11. All players are wearing an 11 on the right side of their helmet to honor Jacob Wetterling. http://www.gojohnnies.com/news/2016/9/15/general-sju-athletics-to-honor-jacob-wetterling.aspx

I imagine dialogue like this is is exactly what the desired outcome is, to help raise awareness of Jacob and other missing children.

Thanks Rube and Oz.  That's a really special tribute your athletic department is paying in his memory and to his family.  Hats off to them.  I'm glad to learn the perpetrator has been apprehended.

Maybe even a 5 or 6 pm start time...however I guess the number of intoxicated fans could skyrocket.
Will they sell alcohol at this game?  I think that's a recipe for disaster.

I think that's just for the 'student section.' I'm guessing they'll open up all the seats around the 3rd base line as well. At least one would hope.

Still gives SJU bench a very stale environment.

another question I'd have, will they actually have dirt grass down, or will this be an Oakland Raiders style game, played on dirt??

Sounded like they would turf in the first base line itself since it's so close to (in?) the end zone, but otherwise, it would be like a Raiders game or the way the Dolphins used to play during baseball season when the Marlins were in Joe Robbie.
