Keep in mind that the soccer field had to be angled to fit the dimensions of the baseball field layout.

I've changed my mind and decided that Johnnie / Tommie game will easily draw over 20K fans...could be as high as 30K.  The reason why I believe this is that my father-in-law has asked me to buy tickets for my family (wife and two kids), my sister-in-law, her husband and two kids and my mother-in-law and himself.  He attended STA and College of $t. Thomas before getting married and drafted in 1968 (he got his draft notice on his wedding day).  He hasn't attended an SJU / U$T game in about 20 years.
It's got me thinking that I might want to buy about 20 tickets in the $35 section and see if I can get $50 a piece for the extra extras.

I think you might be right on there. My parents have never been to a Tommie game, but my mom and I were discussing it this weekend and she suggested that maybe they would come up for it. That would probably mean instead of just me going (or me and a kid or two), it'll be my wife and I, my parents, and 2 kids. Also have friends/alums in Ohio and Oklahoma planning to make the trip. I think we'll see a lot of that.

(he got his draft notice on his wedding day).

There's some sort of joke in there but I've been so beaten down by 24 years of marriage that I can't think what it could be.

Oh and my mother-in-law was about 2 month pregnant and his mom was mad at him for not buying new shoes.

If someone had just shot his dog and his truck had run out of gas then we've got ourselves a country music classic.

I think it's more like "just shot his truck and his dog ran out of gas" but I'm no expert.

Week 9 in the MIAC 2016

Tipping my hat to Pat and Keith, who have opened up the post-season discussion in this week's podcast. They mentioned the SOS (Strength of Schedule) scores and how they affect the outcome of who gets picked in what order for the 6 at-large bids in Pool C this year. Here's how the MIAC stacks up through week 8 this year (out of 237 possible teams):

45. Bethel
63. Carleton
65. Concordia-Moorhead
71. St. Thomas
83. Augsburg
91. Gustavus
115. Hamline
128. St. John's
229. St. Olaf

St. John's is idle this week, so their SOS isn't going to get any better.

This week's blowout game will be Carleton traveling up to Concordia. I was surprised to see the score from last week's game between Carleton and St. Olaf, as I really thought Carleton had something going this year in knocking off Hamline earlier in the year. This game will drag Concordia's SOS down.

St. Thomas at Bethel, is the next game up this week. Bethel seems to still be "settling in" to who they are this year, as personnel continues to be in flux. This year, the Royals appear to have a "Jekyll and Hyde" personality, in that the highs are high and the lows are very low. If they can find a way to stay on the horse, they could give the Tommies a game. But I suspect the Tommies will win the race this year.

The last two games in the MIAC this week could either be the game of the week, as they both feature teams with similar records and being next to each other in the conference standings. Augsburg at 2-4, travels to Hamline at 2-3, and Gustavus at 1-4, travels to St. Olaf at 1-4. I could see how both of these games could be hotly contested, and both of these games will help flesh out the standings for the year in the MIAC.

And, just in case you're new to the board, the SOS numbers will change over the last couple of weeks as teams finish out their schedules. With how the Pool C committees work, having a high SOS at this point in the season is helpful in getting your team regionally ranked. Playing non-conference teams with a high SOS gives your team a boost – look at Bethel. But you have to win those games – look at Bethel.

Lastly, because it could come to pass, if Bethel does upset St. Thomas this week, I would predict that the WIAC definitely gets 2 teams into Pool C, and only one MIAC team goes into the playoffs. And this is more so a possibility if Concordia were to also win against St. John's in the last week of the season.

The added infield turf worked pretty well for the soccer game.

Not sure I'm quite at your level of optimism, but I guess this game has the benefit of having almost a year between now and the game and the Twins helping promote it.  I'll reserve any jumping to 20-30k estimates until I see the Twins punch the throttle on promotional efforts come the start of next football season.
I'll do my part and attend with my wife, daughter and my parents.

Attendance numbers aside, the most important question has to be where will Stiftungsfestivities set up base camp??

If ever there was a chance ESPN's GameDay attends the Tommie/Johnnie rivalry, this would seem to be it.

Their aren't too many major college conference schedules released yet, but the SEC schedules are. The only decent game in the SEC for 9/23 is Arkansas-Texas A&M. The rest is pure garbage.  So that gives a small boost to the idea. Notre Dame does play at Michigan State that day, but given the seasons both are having that may not be GameDay worthy.

You can use this link to play around if you are interested in how looking at schedules to try and determine the low probability of it happening. http://www.fbschedules.com/ncaa/2017-college-football-schedules.php

The best part of the Target Field game, is that a cycle of rushing the field hopefully gets broken. We are talking about two program's, that at a minimum are Top 15 teams, year in and year out now. Unless some significant streak is broken (say 5+ games in a row) I think the rushing the field has worn out its welcome. It worked when the Tommies won for the first time in a while, and when SJU beat the Tommies in Fasching's first year. Those two are about it.

Re: Gameday appearance for Tommie - Johnnie. That had to play into all of this. Weeks 1 & 2 have become big time weeks for non-conference in FBS. Weeks 3 & 4 tend to be sleeper weeks. I am sure that is also in the back of Dave St Peter's mind ($$$$) as well. If that were to happen, the attendance estimates would move upward.

Target Field as a  Football Venue: WCCO TV this morning was reporting on the NDSU-Butler game in 2019- one of the anchors had a tongue in cheek comment, "Wouldn't it be nice if there was a stadium where football & baseball could both be played"  then the weather guy chimes in from the peanut gallery  "And inline skating too..don't leave that out!"   ::)
As of now they're on DOUBLE SECRET Probation!

Saw on Twitter that Dave DeLand is gone from the St. Cloud Times as Gannett goes through yet another brutal round of layoffs company wide. Dave provided awesome coverage to the Johnnies for several decades, a big reason no D3 school has had coverage over the years like SJU. Big loss, and yet another bad day for those who care about the newspaper biz.
