A week off sucks.

Does anyone think Erdmann will start the next game?  Or perhaps Alvord has grabbed his opportunity and claimed top position for the rest of the year?  He made some impressive throws last weekend.

I learned of an internet acronym that will be useful for you. TLDR. It mean "too long, didn't read."

Saw on Twitter that Dave DeLand is gone from the St. Cloud Times as Gannett goes through yet another brutal round of layoffs company wide. Dave provided awesome coverage to the Johnnies for several decades, a big reason no D3 school has had coverage over the years like SJU. Big loss, and yet another bad day for those who care about the newspaper biz.

Yeah, that sucks.  Dave's been on the sports beat at the SC Times for as long as I can remember.

A tradition unrivaled...

Upon further review, I think the acronym is unnecessarily lengthy.
I believe I will just use 'TL'.     ;D

Wow. That's awful.  I took a journalism class that Dave taught at SJU and consider it one of the highlights of my undergrad experience.

I guess this means that nobody is safe in the newspaper business.

Not these days. I graduated with degrees in business and print journalism 16 years ago. I got offered several reporting jobs for about half as much per year as it cost to go to college. I got offered several jobs in finance for 1.5x as much as it cost to go to college per year. I'm really glad I chose to follow the money, because becoming a print journalist was a dead end. I feel bad for these guys. Lots of really good writers and lots of experience have been gutted, and I can't help but think it helps lead to the current state of discourse in this country. Everyone now has to play to an audience to survive instead of actually presenting news more or less objectively, and so we get the confirmation bias that is a major part of our vicious national split.

I think the rushing the field has worn out its welcome.

Uh, yes.  Thank you.

I tolerate it it in two circumstances and that's it:

1) Monumental upsets
2) Walk-off wins

Otherwise, it loses its feel of being something special--or at least caused by something special.

Indeed, nobody is. I would never go back to a full-time journalism job at this point. I need better job security than that.
