Wow. That's awful.  I took a journalism class that Dave taught at SJU and consider it one of the highlights of my undergrad experience.

I guess this means that nobody is safe in the newspaper business.

Not these days. I graduated with degrees in business and print journalism 16 years ago. I got offered several reporting jobs for about half as much per year as it cost to go to college. I got offered several jobs in finance for 1.5x as much as it cost to go to college per year. I'm really glad I chose to follow the money, because becoming a print journalist was a dead end. I feel bad for these guys. Lots of really good writers and lots of experience have been gutted, and I can't help but think it helps lead to the current state of discourse in this country. Everyone now has to play to an audience to survive instead of actually presenting news more or less objectively, and so we get the confirmation bias that is a major part of our vicious national split.

Indeed, nobody is. I would never go back to a full-time journalism job at this point. I need better job security than that.

And here's today's follow-up gut punch. The cuts were in part to clear the way for a major purchase (Chicago Tribune, LA Times) ... and now banks are backing away from the deal.

When you don't realize that middle America works very hard for their money, you don't realize how good you have it. When their NFL careers are over, they realize too late the average household income is $52K. Ratings sell sponsorship, sponsorship (commercials) pay their salaries.

As of now they're on DOUBLE SECRET Probation!

Tommies fans- why has Jordan Roberts only played in 2 games? Is he hurt/injured? Is he expected back for the playoffs? Is coach Caruso "saving" him for the playoffs? Or is this top-secret Intel?

Just curious, thanks.

Knee injury.  I believe he had/is having surgery.

Had surgery. I think the week after the St John's game which he was on the sideline for. Medical redshirt applied for, allegedly.

Others have chimed in, but I have heard something similar to Adrian Peterson's meniscus deal. There were non-surgical options, but ultimately decided surgery and pursuing a med red shirt, if granted.

There is depth at RB, albeit not national player of the year caliber. Both replacement RB's are different styles and seem to work well with the slightly younger offensive line UST has this year.

It would be really fun to see Perra have a year with Roberts, Trettel, and Parks next year. I would love to see how they can sprinkle Parks into the offense in other ways as well.

I apologize if this has already been discussed - but what is the likelihood of him getting a medical redshirt?  Didn't he already have a redshirt year at his first college? Isn't there some sort of a 5 year clock or something that players have  to use up their 4 years of eligibility?

HansenRatings

It's 10 semesters. For him to get the redshirt, he will probably have to sit out spring ball and any organized team activities in the winter/spring semester

Someone with more on the low-down may chime in differently -  but it is my understanding that any student athlete has 10 semesters in which to compete. So, if this is semester number nine and he takes off the spring, he could still compete next fall in his 10th semester. But I do not know this to be absolutely gospel truth.

He's going to have to apply for a 6th year waiver as well.  As far as I can tell everyone who had a true zero games played redshirt season and another season with less than 30% of games played cut short due to an injury has gotten a 6th year.  I follow the Bison and I don't think there was any doubt that Zach Vraa would get his 6th year.
