Thanks!

Legal or not, it sure looked cool!  Very well designed to take advantage of the interior line's requirement to not hit the center, and tendency to focus immediately on getting to the next level.  Long snapper did a great job of selling a normal snapping motion.

Will likely be the only time they can run that version of a fake punt within the MIAC for the next several years, until everyone forgets about it.

It was good play design and perfect timing for the call. Not sure what happens if BU isn't sold out on the punt block, but that's the beauty of when they dialed this up.

Thanks for the link

This looks like it was different than the Nebraska fumblerooski play or other ones where it is snapped to somebody. In Nebraska's play the ball was dropped during the exchange for the guard to pickup. This one looks like it was just held by the long snapper. There have been other version of it too, but dont know that I have seen one where the center just holds it. Still dont know the rules behind the snap / non-snap

That was cool.  Hard to believe that he picked up 70 yards on it, but very cool!

Looks to me like he never released it from his hands.  Illegal snap.

sowilson

And if he didn't release it you could argue that he wasn't protected in the scrimmage kick formation and so an opposing lineman could have blasted him and not given him the 1 second protection.  I'll be sure to tell my son (NG and LS) to be aware of that and to throttle anyone who tries that crap. It sure is an illegal snap. Play dead, 5 yard penalty.

Yeah, by how far the ball is sticking out, and with his hands still back there, I'd agree.

Still very cool to watch it play out.  A wrinkle that I've never seen on a fake punt.

A couple thoughts from the SJU/Hamline game:

1) Hamline is improved.  They looked better than I thought they would.
2) Hamline's got a nice punter.
2) SJU's speed was too much for HU.  Quick passes and runs outside were dead in the water.
3) Erdmann made some great plays, but he struggled.  Something's not right.
4) This is the first I've seen Alvord play in person.  He's talented and a dual threat!
5) SJU needs to clean things up.  Fumbles, muffed punts...those add up!
6) Throw Clark the ball!!!

Typically officials discuss trick plays with the coaching staff during pre-game so it's possible that Auggie felt this play would be allowed.

I'm going with Alvord to start and a 24-17 Johnnie victory.  A four-quarter nail biter.

Didn't Gary pretty much say it was Alvord after the Hamline game?

Think any SJU fans would be interested in game viewing gathering someplace in the Twin Cities on Saturday?
