I would like to give the Cobbers and Gusties a shout out for the very entertaining JV game played Monday night in Sauke Center. Although the score was 22-0 in favor of the Gusties, the game was hard fought, well played, and much closer than the score indicates.  I think both sets of coaches will be happy with their 2016 recruits.

Fortunately, it wasn't much of a contest, but I expect this Saturday's game to be different.

I will admit I was hesitant to click that link, but I can assure everyone it is very safe for work.  In fact it's an interesting treasure trove for the Aston Martin gearhead.

One final word from me on the legality of the fake punt. There is a web site where you can ask a referee questions about rules, so I posed the question and here is their response.

It's illegal on two counts. One, it isn't a snap since a legal snap leaves the snapper's hands. It's a snap infraction Two, it is a "planned loose ball" play in the vicinity of the snapper. In other words a "fumblerooski". That's a 5 yard penalty plus loss of down.

Say what you want about AO, but never claim that he fails at the attention to detail thing.

Regional Rankings are out - at large teams from the west in the order they go on the board for Pool C picks:

1. Oshkosh
2. St. John's
3. Platteville
4. Concordia

All the rest are Pool A bids.

Concordia has to win against the Johnnies, and leap-frog both Platteville and St. John's in the secret final rankings to get to the second at-large place on the board from the West. I'll be very surprised if there will be more than 2 teams picked for Pool C from the West this year, regardless of the outcome of the MIAC game this weekend.
Bit quiet at work so I went and took a look at who I think could make it through in pool C.  Again this is assuming the teams win the final week.  5 of them were fairly easy UWO, Wheaton, Hardin-Simmons, Hobart and assuming SJU can win them as well.  The final spot got a bit interesting as I had it narrowed down to Wesley, Wabash and UWP.  As a WIAC guy I would love to see UWP in it, but with them and Wesley having 2 losses I think Wabash would end up getting in, despite SOS.  Obviously things will clear up a little more as more teams in the East lock up AQ's, but at the moment those would be my guess for the 6.  I think the Cobbers despite Jamestown being NAIA and not counting is still not a good loss for them and tough to jump a 2 loss UWP.  So I believe they are playing the role of spoiler this week.  Wish I could get up there to see that game.
