The editorial experts have SJU in. As expected. Until the selection format is changed I don't foresee a scenario where a 9-1 SJU or UST or UMU or any other perennial playoff team gets left out. D3 uses a committee and as a result their is a human element in the process and teams of that ilk are going to be weighted differently. You see this play out w/ the D1 playoff selection as well.

And SJU deserves a spot so this isn't simply a legacy selection.

Ratbacker

So the selection committee as I understand are looking closer at Strength of Schedule during the Pool C selections and are giving serious consideration to 2 loss teams over one loss teams now more than ever based on a significantly higher SOS , what do we think the Johnnies should do to beef up their SOS other than hoping it's MIAC brethren improve? There is still is an open date on the schedule next year should they target a stronger program or continue to look for a cupcake?

DuffMan

I think the Johnnies just need to win the MIAC and not worry about pool C.

A tradition unrivaled...

Like a KO in boxing. Sure keeps the judges out of the equation.  :)

If SJU does get a playoff spot, it will be a legacy selection.  Looking at UW - Platteville sitting with a SOS of 10 and SJU at 70, it should be an easy decision between the two.  I would argue that Oshkosh, Whitewater and Platteville should all make it in.

The rest of these teams in the MIAC quite frankly need to step it up; there is not excuse for how weak this conference has become.

But SJU had a better record against that schedule than UWP did. We don't believe it would be a legacy selection -- St. John's arguably has better selection credentials than Mount Union does.

There are teams across the border in Wisconsin looking for games every year. St. John's could certainly take one of them up on their offer.

It will not be based of a legacy selection, Saint John's is similar to Oklahoma last year in the fact that they have really been hitting their stride at the right time, and I think that played a role in getting Oklahoma into the top 4 last year. I think the current St.Johns team could give any team in the nation a serious run for their money right now.

Entire MIAC was saying same thing about St. Thomas from 1991 through 2007 so it's even.

Agreed, have things changed since 2007 and since GC took over at UST eight years ago.

I 2nd the motion. I believe it's Sept. 9 2017 we are taking about. Platteville & LaCrosse both have open dates. UST is open that week as well, perhaps they could schedule one and SJU the other.
As of now they're on DOUBLE SECRET Probation!

It looks like the Johnnies will see Platteville next Saturday  ;)

Welcome to the boards, ratbacker!  We can never have too many Johnnies here. :)
