Yeah, this game looks like a great matchup. Both play very well on both sides of the ball. SJU has the slight edge on D and the UWP has a slight edge on O. Love when we get to see strength on strength like this. Those first 4 categories are fascinating to think about.

Yes, very much looking forward to it!  I wish that the playoff system wasn't what it is, which results in top teams not being willing to regularly schedule this type of a game as a non-con.

It would be fun to see the tops of the MIAC / WIAC / IIAC being regularly engaged in playing each other....as much fun as it is to see SJU play CSS...   :P

Before I posted anything here I chose to let things get digested and to give folks some time to let it all sink in since selection Sunday. I'll try to pull out a few things that may or may not have been considered concerning the 2016 D3 Football playoffs, especially as it concerns MIAC teams.

As Pat mentioned on the podcast, the committee could have flipped a couple of brackets so that the Johnnies and the Tommies , and Wheaton and North Central wouldn't see each other until week three or four. As a MIAC fan and supporter, I agree that this would have made for a better tournament. All the teams involved could have easily driven to the ensuing games, so that there would have been no extra flights involved. As it is, we still have a pretty good bracket, and probably the best that I've seen over the past 10 years or so.

Northwestern at St. Thomas. Northwestern finally got the link to the Tommies site rectified on their website. This is the first time the Eagles have been in the tourney, and they will bring their best game, but I think they know full well that the likelihood of them winning this game is pretty poor. Others have already predicted a double and maybe a triple monkey-stomp, and I've no doubt that it won't be. If the staff of the Eagles have done their homework, they might put a hook and ladder into their playbook this week, ala Concordia, to add a little excitement to the game. St. Thomas will be resting their starters by half-time unless something unbelievable happens.

Platteville at St. John's. This has all the makings of being one of the two or three good games in this first round, along with the Linfield/Hardin-Simmons and Mount Union/Hobart games. There may be a couple of other close games, but not among the top 10 teams in D3. While there is supposed to be snow the night before, the field should be clear by game time, but a high of 32 will make this the first time this year that any teams in the MIAC have to deal with really cold weather. Both teams are used to it, but the ball may make some unlooked for bounces along the way. The Johnnies are ranked and seeded higher than the Pioneers, but at this time of the year, I'm not willing to put much stock into those things.  I think this game will be determined by last possession and expect the defenses to have a lot of say in the game. Good luck to the Johnnies.

OK, I'm calling for a close game between these two "never have played each other" foes.  At least I don't think the Johnnies have ever played Platteville.

Not like the seemingly close battle anticipated in Moorhead turned bust.  For the Cobbers, it went from a party to a crime.

For the Johnnies, bring on the pick and ax gals.

In other news, nice re-design for d3football.com. I like.
Since I don't and won't belong to any social network, I guess I can no longer use d3football.com, at least I haven't figured it out. :'(j

Oops, maybe I got it by touching the 3equal sign on upper right.  ;)

If you're on a mobile device or have a very narrow screen, you'll see something like that. The three horizontal lines are a menu icon -- pretty popular on mobile websites these days.

Just curious -- are you using mobile or do you keep your browser narrow? Interested in hearing about your experience.

Won't block ads - didn't know you could  :)

Pat:
Further information
The IPad mini works regular but on the full size I have to use the 3 horizontal lines.
Maybe just my setup but I am on board either way.
Thanks
