I remember him making some plays at the Bethel game as he was wearing #6 which was Pierson's number and my son and I had been sitting by Pierson's parents. Apparently the PA and radio calls didn't have the changed roster numbers.

UST has been doing a LOT of number changing lately, which honestly is just goofy.  Caruso's done it in the past a bunch (Charlie Dowdle was probably 5 different numbers during his time at UST), but he's picked it up in recent weeks even moreso.  I guess the good news is the refs are informed and they make an announcement before the series starts.  It's just goofy though.

IMO - the only reason to change numbers (other than required by a position change) is to try and confuse the opponents as to who is actually playing which is a bit shady if you ask me.

Or..... Special Teams packages. Example: a Sr. is #6 and through out the year a Soph, who is also #6 is on a punt coverage team with Sr. #6 then the Soph is going to change number. Nothing shady about that. Just an underclassman improving over the course of the year and getting playing time requiring the number change.
As of now they're on DOUBLE SECRET Probation!

What's happened to the IIAC?  In 2015, the IIAC champ was drubbed by SJU...twice.  In 2016, the IIAC champ was kicked to the curb by U$T.  Not too long ago, games between the IIAC and MIAC champs were very competitive.  Are things going downhill, or are the past few years just anomalies?

A tradition unrivaled...

Spot on. A few injuries combined with adjusting your special teams units for the shrunk playoff size rosters requires a few changes in numbers to ensure no duplicates are out there. The kick coverage team has changed a bit in the last few weeks.

I was struck by the gap that exists as well. I think it is a combo platter of the MIAC getting to be very good and the IIAC falling off a bit.

Wartburg had a really solid squad a few years back that beat a weaker Tommie team (3rd in the MIAC, SJU in the 2nd round, and gave Whitewater a run for their money, but that seemed to be an exception for conference depth or a strong playoff run in the last 5 years.

I've wondered the same - it seems that Wartburg is down a notch, and nobody has stepped up.  The 2013 Wartburg squad was right on par with what I think was the best team BU has ever produced, and they were very good again in 2014, being just a few plays away from knocking off Whitewater.  They haven't returned to form, and Central hasn't been much of a force recently either.

Hello everybody!!! ;D Have been away from the board for a while! Question: How does UST Match up to UWO?  Input is welcome! Never seen UWO play and just wanted to know what the Tommie's can expect.

THANKS!

Didn't really have a chance to keep up this last weekend.  But saw SJU gave up 300 rushing?  How?  I know UWO is really good, but that's a lot for what I've heard about the SJU D.  Injuries or just got it handed to them?

UW-O busted off a couple of big running plays.  I thought the SJU D handled UW-O's running game well except for a couple of breakdowns, resulting in huge gains.

I was at the UWW/UWO game.  Personally I felt UWO was the better team but shot themselves in the foot with turnovers.  Definitely a smash mouth kind of team.  Very physical and runs hard behind a mean line.  Defense plays with controlled aggressiveness.  Very sound.  Generally force you to drive for points, waiting for you to make a mistake.  Didn't see much in the passing game, but they were running pretty effectively against UWW.  Having seen both play I think it will be won by whichever team can control the front and limit mistakes.  Hoping to make it to the game as it could be one of the best of the postseason.

Bingo -- we talk all the time about how the shortened playoff rosters affect special teams units and this is another way it does.

Agree, but they've been changing numbers from half to half, within games lately.

You could take out the three biggest runs of the day for UWO (72, 57 and 45 yards) and UWO still averaged 4.6 yards/carry which would still be a full yard better than what St. John's averaged on the day....
