Carter Hanson is in NYC for the Campbell Award ceremonies (and he has a good shot at winning it, I think), which are tonight. Last night I had the chance to hang out with former Johnnie greats Adam Herbst and Brandon Novak; Adam's with alumni relations now and Brandon of course co-defensive coordinator. Really fun night and then today got to meet Carter and his awesome parents (southern Minnesota representing!) at a lunch with Marc Flynn, a 1978 SJU grad and member of the 1976 title team. He told some fun stories about the (in)famous '76 title victory over Towson, when Johnnies blew a 28-0 FOURTH QUARTER lead, only to win 31-28 on a field goal by QB/kicker Jeff Norman.

What an amazing career for Carter but more importantly an even more amazing off-the-field career at SJU, in the classroom and with charities, etc.

Of course, as happens in my conversations, Carter's dad and me got into a fun discussion about single-class basketball and his old tiny Frost, MN, team that made a run at state in 1971.

Oz, I couldn't help but think of you with this video I saw on accuweather:
http://www.accuweather.com/en/videos/trending-now/man-punches-kangaroo-in-face-to-rescue-his-dog/5237455879001

Oh, the back story on that is getting hot here. Turns out he's a nerdy type and his mates were giving him crap for throwing such a weak punch.  And, worse for him, he's an animal curator at a zoo. The professional protesting class are campaigning to get him fired for his inhumanity.

I haven't bothered to find out what he was doing in the bush with his dog in the first place but I am getting curious. Camping?  Dunno.

EDIT: So they were boar hunting back in June with a friend dying from cancer (died last week, apparently). The dogs are hunting dogs trained to ignore kangaroos. The dogs were running past some when a big male reached out and grabbed one pooch in a chokehold.  The dog was wearing an armoured vest as protection from a boar so it wasn't injured.

Any Johnnies try purchasing pre sale tix yesterday? A friend mentioned on Twitter he was having issues w/ he website. I haven't tried. I'll ultimately buy tix but don't mind holding my dollars for the time being.

I took a look today and the technology seemed to be working fine.

It looks like just about everything between the 30 yard lines from top to bottom is sold out (the only exception being a block of seats in the upper deck in right-center field.)

I'm trying to round up some of my '07 classmates so we can buy a big block of seats at some point in the next few weeks.
Sing us a song, you're the piano man
Sing us a song tonight
Well, we're all in the mood for a melody
And you've got us feelin' alright.

Had to make two attempts to purchase.
I could be totally off base on this, but the illusion that this (game held at Target Field) will bring in much more than 17K fans could be wishful dreaming on behalf of UST,SJU & the Twins. There is definitely sticker shock for the casual D3 fan let alone those of us who have had season tickets for many years. Then there will be no cheap tailgating pre game food etc. This will be interesting & the Twins marketing department may surprise me. Time will tell.
As of now they're on DOUBLE SECRET Probation!

How so?  I'm from out of town so I don't know the Target Field area at all.  Will fans be able to park and set up grills, tents, coolers, etc?  The good news is that there should be plenty of parking for all fans, given there won't be 40k people there.

http://mlb.mlb.com/min/ballpark/information/index.jsp?content=guide  <----------Go to "E" under Entry Guidelines. There are bars & restaurants in the area that will be pregame stops but I don't see a parking lot full of grills like at SJU or UST. Just my opinion, I guess time will tell.
I think Duffman mentioned this earlier when the game was announced, for his family ( wife & 2 kids under age 5) it would be a $250.00 day.

wm4, Target Field is located in a major metro downtown. Most of the parking is in ramps, and the few in the area that are open on street level are nowhere to set up a tent or bbq, unless you want to pay for an extra few parking spots for $15-20 per., such as we were pushed to do at a Johnnie tailgate in River Falls a few years back. Then we were able to pick up the picnic table and place it on some grass out of a parking spot.  ;)  Not an option in that part of downtown Minneapolis.

Mr.MIAC

So what's the thought on having a D3boards.com pre-game somewhere nearby Target Field? Kieran's, Gluek's, and a number of other festive places are located within easy walking distance.

In keeping with the Johnnie/Tommie theme it seems Fulton's Taproom would be the natural place for this.

Minneapolis only allows tailgating in a few lots surrounding US Bank Stadium (the U of M has a different exception from the state legislature), so you could go there but it'd be about a mile walk.

Or a 50c trip and 5 minutes on the light rail.
