As fans of D3 we may believe that our teams are filled with student athletes who are well rounded and make good decisions in the game we call life. For the most part this is true. As 18-23 year old young men, from time to time they make boneheaded moves, but usually not like the starting TE at Arkansas,Jeremy Sprinkle.

So I'm watching the Belk Bowl on ESPN tonight and find out that Sprinkle is suspended for violating team rules. Here is what got him suspended. Belk, the sponsor is a department store chain in the southeast. So Belk gives each of the players a $450.00 shopping spree and a Fossil watch. That wasn't enough for Sprinkle,he had to stuff 8 unpaid for items in his shopping bag after going through checkout  as he was leaving the store. What a bonehead. ???

He has a good chance of catching on with an NFL team and he has to shoplift.... it makes you wonder.
As of now they're on DOUBLE SECRET Probation!

That makes me think of a lot of things to say, but I'll say none of them except for this.  Shoplifting is hard:

Great question!  Another question is will U$T renew their contract w/ the Old Neighbor?  Anybody have any idea how much the Tommie athletic department pays for Dave Lee to have some semblance of a sports broadcasting career?

Why scheduling UW Whitewater makes sense for the johnnies
There are two open dates on the 2017 and 2018 SJU schedule, the question becomes do you try and schedule a home and home series or two different opponents. Given you probably want to stay in region the options for 2017 are few, UW-Plattville,North Central, Washington U and UW Whitewater. All of these teams were playoff participants this year so there really are no cup cakes unless of course you are willing to travel, most likely by air or can get another team to travel to Collegeville.

So why schedule Whitewater? for one they have the same two open dates in 2017 and 2018, they provide an instant boost to your strength of schedule and you have a chance to measure your program against the D3 elite. It really is a no lose scenario, if you travel to Whitewater this season you may catch them when they are still a bit down  :), you get to measure where you are as a program and if you happen to lose the game you just need to take care of business in the MIAC to make the playoffs. If you drop one to UST as well this season you could still get consideration as a 2 loss program much like Platteville did this season.
In 2018 you would then get Whitewater and UST at home and things are shaping up for the Johnnies to be a stronger team in 2018 anyway. Just my two cents.

Who carried Toms games before the Old Neighbor on Life Support?
Sing us a song, you're the piano man
Sing us a song tonight
Well, we're all in the mood for a melody
And you've got us feelin' alright.

I believe att the time U$T signed on with Old Neighbor 'CCO had just lost their Gopher contract.  The only other sport that 'CCO still has is the Timberwolves.  At this point what would the neighbor have on the air for 3 hours on a Saturday afternoon if they didn't have the Tommie$?  They will resign a contract...the Old Neighbor and U$T want statewide radio coverage of the Target Field game.

I think the previous contract was pretty interesting. I may not have all the facts, but I believe UST essentially "bought" air time on Saturdays. They pay for the air time and Radio Dave and Eric Nelson (was to be Senser until his wife's issues occurred that first week of broadcast). UST then was able to co-own advertising during the game and get a % of revenue from that to offset air time costs. I suppose the model could be tweaked now that it isn't new anymore and the players that be have an idea what kind of listening audience they are getting.

While the Old Neighbor is easy to knock, one thing that cant be disputed is their range and bandwidth. It reaches far out into cabin country and extends well beyond the states borders. The game each week is also a nice segue into the college football scoreboard show they have been doing for years.

They also do a good job, not just celebrating UST, but the entire MIAC. Athletes of the week are announced across all sports and other MIAC members are guests on the halftime show semi-frequently.

Claeys out at Minnesota.  Fleck next?  Other??  Hmmmm

If this new AD knows what he's doing, I don't think he would have fired Claeys w/o having a bigger name lined up. Fleck seems like the best option available, despite FootballScoop's report that it's "not happening"

I agree.  Other names to consider...Pellini and Bohl.  Maybe even Les Miles (long shot in my view).

Or they could pull a UConn and go back to Glen Mason!

For any jazz fans out there, I have been enjoying listening to Nancy Harms lately. She is a Concordia grad! Look at me with my red blinders off! ;)
