It is an interesting dynamic. No one is promised anything. Last year the kid (Fenske) that had been with the program for 3 years earned his spot and beat out both of the D1 transfers. Other than the stinker of a game against Oshkosh he proved himself to be the most dynamic thrower Caruso has had in his tenure. Might have helped that he was the first QB that could actually see over the Offensive Line too.  ;D

BDB, or anyone with knowledge. I heard that Leinenkugel was discontinuing their brewing of Leine Red, but were going to replace it with a similar brew available only in WI. Any inside info?

My father-in-law's name is Lionel.  His mother called him Linnie.  Made me chuckle every time I heard her say it.

Apparently that's old news, but correct:

57 would be the expert on all things Chippewa Falls as that is his home town.

Myself, it's Leinie's Original in a bottle when I'm out ordering at a local Wiscy establishment.   8-)

Yep. A little early for a Leine, though. :)

Sorry, I gave up on Leinies when they quit using wooden barrels for original draft.  :D

NHL Playoffs

So far:

-57's Avalache don't make the field
-BDB's Wild get ousted first round
-retagents Capitals fall in second round

Leaving:

-Bennie's Ducks vs Predators
-Penguins vs Senators

BDB Predicts:

Preds over Ducks (sorry bennie)
Pens over Sens

Pens over Preds for Stanley Cup in 6. (Put a sawbuck on it)

Nailed it.

I swear the Pens must have pictures of Bettman and all the referees with underage girls. That or they need a rectal horseshoectomy. I hate them with a passion, and to see them get the breaks they get almost makes my head explode. Then to hear Dillweed and Jones talk about how they're getting hosed on non-calls.... GRRRRRRRR! >:(

Decided I'm going to spam every conference board with my preseason (non-returning-starter-adjusted) projections.

Team   Rating   Overall   Conference
UST   0.9988   9.7-0.3   7.7-0.3
SJU   0.9921   7.9-1.1   6.9-1.1
Bethel   0.9270   6.5-3.5   5.2-2.8
Concordia   0.9246   6.4-3.6   5.3-2.7
GAC   0.7308   4.9-5.1   3.7-4.3
Hamline   0.5834   4.5-5.5   2.8-5.2
Auggie   0.4760   3.8-6.2   2.3-5.7
St. O   0.2780   2.5-7.5   1.3-6.7
Carleton   0.2105   1.6-8.4   0.9-7.1

Assuming the Tommie-Johnnie game is 70-30 in favor of the Tommies, that means SJU only has a 30% chance of losing any other game on their schedule. Looks like it's still a 2-horse race until further notice. For the third straight year, my model thinks Bethel is a Top 25-caliber squad, but this is actually the first time in 3 years their schedule is favorable enough to project out as above 0.500 (they have the best home-field advantage in the conference according to the model too, maybe that has something to do with it?).

Nice work. Until we know more about starters and transfers I was thinking this number of wins is a safe bet for Augsburg. Might get an upset or two in there but you can't project that yet.

I'll be interested to see if anything scheme-wise changes on the BU defense this year, with the departure of the two top defensive coaches, Mike Fregeau (retiring from coaching) and Jimmy Miller (moving over to AO's UNW, where he was for 11 years, to be the D-coord for one of his former players from UNW, who he also coached with at BU).  I don't know if the 3-4 setup was their collective preference, or if that is what Coach J believes they should be playing.

Each of their departures by itself left a big hole, let alone to have them both depart in the same season.

Third place feels right for BU, I'd wager, though I think next year (2018) or maybe even an outside shot at this year, I believe they'll have the horses to push SJU and UST, though I think a healthy Jordan Roberts will make UST very, very tough to beat this season.

Unrelated - Did anyone else take any hail damage on the 11th?  Our house got whacked.  2/4 sides of the house look like that, lost 7 windows, deck looks like it was sand blasted, a/c compressor ruined, and a few other smaller items all to be charged to our insurance.

What's the feel from the non-SJU crowd on the Johnnie's recent string of title-contenders? Is it a result of the new coaching staff completely turning around the whole program and they're the #1 or #2 team in the conference every year, or did they just have a few absolute horses the last few years that are going to be hard to replace? It wasn't that long ago they finished 5th in my final MIAC ratings:

Now that SJU has recovered and is back in the 1 or 2 position the past few years, and likely to be #1 or #2 this year, I'd actually be more interested in hearing from the SJU crowd on what went wrong right at the end of the Gags era?  Did their recruiting (or lack of it) based on reputation just stop working with the current generation of athletes?  Was it purely a run of "bad luck" - which would seem unlikely, based on how long they were so good, to suddenly have a downturn, which was then corrected by a new coach.  Was UST temporarily snagging a number of guys who might have historically gone to SJU?
