Is/was there any discussion about moving the game at Target Field to the evening and giving it a primetime feel?  Or does St. Thomas's deal with WCCO prevent any sort of flexibility? In my mind I see it working well at 7P.M. and channel 45 could televise it like they do the state tournament.  I just feel there are more ways for the MIAC and the two schools could crank it up.  Or maybe they don't want all that right now.  Maybe this is a trial run and if it goes well then they'll move up the scale, maybe try to do a game at US Bank?
I think the nice weather in September has helped attendance.  You might be risking that boost with a cold night game.

I'd give them about a 10% chance of getting College GameDay.  Maybe if the Tommies or Johnnies win the championship we could push that number to 40% in 2018.

Odds UST-SJU get the Gameday crew to Minnesota before the Gophers?

Would definitely help the Gophers chances if they follow the Tommies/Johnnies lead and convince the B1G to put the Battle for the Axe earlier in the schedule or just any other day besides Michigan/Ohio State and the Iron Bowl.

Oh I wasn't thinking they had any shot of getting GameDay, I was thinking more about getting another appearance on SportsCenter on the Road.

IF Michigan tanks early in the season and badly, and if Auburn does as well....AND if Minnesota is running the table, I could see Gameday at TCF on Saturday, November 25th, for the game against Wisconsin.  That'd be more attractive than OSU/Michigan or Auburn/Alabama.

It'd be for the B1G 10 West division.  Under my scenario, Minnesota would have beaten Michigan in October, in Ann Arbor.  Certainly not likely, but it could play out that way.

A treat of a game.  Believed by many to be the greatest Grand Final ever played.   It's the Battle of '89 between Hawthorn and Geelong.  A brutal affair with Hawthorn's Dermot Brereton getting cheap shotted on the opening bounce and playing out the game with broken ribs and a ruptured spleen.   Later in the match Hawthorn's Dipper Diaminaco played out the game with punctured lungs and more broken ribs.  The Hawk's John "The Rat" Platten was so concussed that he has no memory of that week but played out the game.  It was brutal.

But now it's on  youtube.  For the last "old time hockey" Grand Final, here's the link:

https://youtu.be/vMGqihdW3v0

For a bit of background, Geelong had been the finesse side all year.  Talent to burn.  Hawthorn was playing in their seventh Grand Final in 8 years but '89 had been a struggle.  Hawthorn had made it there by playing dirty.  Playing mean.  Geelong came out in no mood to take any ****.  Everyone put their foil on before the match.

SJU players start camp this weekend.  It will be strange without Frank Rajkowski covering the Johnnies.  I wonder what the SC Times has planned!

A tradition unrivaled...

I can't recall now whether I watched that match live, but I've seen plenty of highlights over the years and it is a perfect example of what I expect when I think of Aussie Rules. It's "real" footy.
  Thanks for the link.

I don't think this had been posted last week. Reusse with a nice story on former Cobbers receiver Brandon Zylstra, who's doing well in the CFL and still aiming for the NFL.

Agreed on Frank. I did see last night that a member of the Institutional Advancement office mentioned on Twitter that Dave Deland will be covering SJU - tweet text in bold below. I know Dave is an employee of SJU now. Will be interesting to see what his coverage is like as he'll be reporting from within the belly of the beast.

Now you can read about the Johnnies directly on http://gojohnnies.com  and http://sjualum.com , thanks to our new talent @DaveDeLand

Well, camp starts for the teams of the MIAC and I would like to wish best of luck to all of the young men reporting to camp in the next few days. I hope they have great seasons and that they stay safe and injury free.

Mr.MIAC

Why does SJU draw so few recruits from Wisconsin? Based on my calculations, 35% of UST's roster is out of state, drawing heavily from Wisconsin (13%) and Illinois (13%). SJU's roster is 23% out of state, with California (9%) leading the pack. Only 2% (that's 3 recruits) come from Wisconsin. I'd expect more kids heading to SJU, given Wisconsin's proximity and the popularity of football in the state.

Wisconsin has a lot of D3 schools and some pretty darn good D3 football.  I don't think SJU recruits WI too hard.

Most of these factors impact UST recruiting too. So do you think UST is just focussing more on WI?
