Another big factor will be how the game is officiated. If late hits and chippy play are allowed that won't benefit SJU. And turning over UST would be a plus.

Will be fun to listen to the radio highlights of the game   ;D

Does anybody know what brand of paper towels are the favorite of U$T and the 2009-211 New Orleans Saints?

I'll get this one out of the way now that folks are starting to evaluate the prospects for MIAC teams this season. UST should really move up to DII or DI...
The Pioneer Football League or the Missouri Valley Football Conference would be logical regional fits. Maybe UMD could join UST to make an even number of teams. Good luck with that  ;)
As of now they're on DOUBLE SECRET Probation!

Probably Pioneer as they are non-scholarship.  It would make an easier transition for them.  Not entirely sure I would advocate for them to move up though.

SJU players start camp this weekend.  It will be strange without Frank Rajkowski covering the Johnnies.  I wonder what the SC Times has planned!

Agreed on Frank. I did see last night that a member of the Institutional Advancement office mentioned on Twitter that Dave Deland will be covering SJU - tweet text in bold below. I know Dave is an employee of SJU now. Will be interesting to see what his coverage is like as he'll be reporting from within the belly of the beast.

Now you can read about the Johnnies directly on http://gojohnnies.com  and http://sjualum.com , thanks to our new talent @DaveDeLand

The first article by Dave Deland was posted last week. The subject is Evan Clark and his return as a 5th year senior. http://www.csbsju.edu/sjualum/2017clark

Mr.MIAC

I've got it. UST should go DI to compete with the likes of Boston College. SJU should leave the MIAC and join the NJCAA, which includes institutions closer in standing to the hallowed halls of Collegeville. That way SJU has a chance at returning to the top of an athletic conference and maybe UST can benefit by siphoning some of SJU's talent. I'm sure there will be a few athletically potent, academically inclined Johnnies who fail to make it through the UST admissions process on the first go. No worries. They can do two years at SJU, basically a feeder school with good bread and few modern distractions, and then make another run at UST.

Doesn't U$T now have a junior college?  When will Tommie Lite have a football team? Probably could win a few NJCAA Natty's and develop some players along the way.

They do. Are you worried this might hurt SJU's recruiting?

Seems that the Tommies are already staking out territory with RCTC scrimmages the last couple years.
I only remember one Jr. College transfer at SJU, CB James Schaeffer, took a goal line fumble 99 yards from Bethel's 1 yard line on way to a rout, Johnnies over Royals in Duffman's era.

James rolled into Collegeville for the 2001 season and was gone by the 2002 season, though I think he had another year or two of eligibility left.  I don't recall any other JuCo transfers, either.  I think a lot of JuCo players have their sights set higher than D3.

A tradition unrivaled...
MIAC Champions: '32, '35, '36, '38, '53, '62, '63, '65, '71, '74, '75, '76, '77, '79, '82, '85, '89, '91, '93, '94, '95, '96, '98, '99, '01, '02, '03, '05, '06, '08, '09, '14, '18, '19, '21, '22, '24
National Champions: '63, '65, '76, '03

Hawthorn have sent off Captain Courageous, Luke Hodge, in style with a victory over the Bulldogs.  The Hawks fell one win short of a post season appearance but have some exceptional young talent that really blossomed this year.  Next year should be a winner.

James brought a different style to SJU. As a scout team player my career didn't have that many notable moments but I did steal a jump ball from James one day during goal line practice. Height isn't one of my strongest attributes so I must have gotten up that day.

Concordia averaged 48 yards per completion against St Thomas last year. And matched the Tommies in yards per pass attempt.

I had to go back and look at that box score.  8 attempts, 2 completions for 96 yards and 1 TD.  :D

Technically correct is the best kind of correct.

The 250+ rushing yards is probably what kept the Cobbers close. Someone smarter than me can go check the last time the Tommies gave up that much in the new era?

2015 Stagg Bowl, 330 yards on the ground to MU.  Damn, 3/4ths of that had to have come in the second half ha.

jamtod

I ran the numbers quick from the play by play, because I apparently hate myself.
Mount had 244 yards in the second half.
74% of the total. Just under 3/4.
