I guess the Bauhaus owner is a UST alum, but none that I know of other than that.

Are there any Tommie breweries, or do they stick to their appletinis?

Indeed and 612.

I would think Fulton Libertine until they graduate to 'Night Train'.  8-)

Does my basement count? I have a Mr. Beer in a closet somewhere.

To the Johnnie faithful, coverage in the SC Times has been almost absent at this point.  I checked the SJU football page awhile ago and found no details on Saturday's game, I mean as far as personnel is concerned.

BUT the Saint Scholastica page has game notes for the game with a Johnnie two-deep listed.  Interesting and finally!!

...craft beer...

I tried a few oddballs at the state fair on Monday.

Barley John's Dill Pickle Beer:  Yuck
Insight Duke of Cuke:  Yuck
Schell's Red Citrus Sangria Beer:  This was really good as a change of pace
Modist Dream Yard IPA:  Didn't love it, didn't hate it
Sociable Cider Werks Raspberry Hard Cider:  Mrs. Duffman enjoyed this and enjoyed it

Didn't go for the Lift Bridge Mini-Donut Beer?

Okay, back from a brief interlude to put the steaks in marinade for tonight's fajitas . . . .

Erdman listed as QB starter, I guess that's no surprise.  Dusty Krueger and Kai Barber in the backfield, I like those two together, hope Barber can go injury free this year.  Clark, Harrington and Auger at the receiver spots.  All good.  On the line, a couple new names to me, Tyler Otto, a soph at center, 5'9 270 lbs.  Okay, a fire plug.  Dan Greenheck, soph at RG, from Cretin-Durham Hall.  3 seniors at the other spots, Souza, Jarosz, and Voight.

On D, lots of returning experience up front, typical Johnnie DL with lots of guys under 250.  I've never liked it, but its hard to argue with the results. Brinker, Glenzinski, and listed as starters.  Only one of them a SR.  Interesting LB corps, some old names.  Mack Short listed at 5'9, 185.  He had some major league special team hits last year.  David Franta has played quite a bit.  Mitch Messman has been around awhile, but I don't remember him getting much PT.  Old name, new guy Danny Pietruzsewski freshman, listed starting at LB.  240 lbs.  My kind of guy.  Lots returning in the DB, Gutierrez, Lortz, Max Jackson, with Ryan LaCasse, soph as the other starter.

Looks like a decent Johnnie team, you'd think that offense could put some points on the board.  And an experienced D, with a little more size at LB than in the past.

Thank you, MRF!

That's the sort of summary we need.  The lead up to this year has been very low key.  It's great to see that there is quite a bit of returning talent.  I wonder how quickly the team will gel and how good they can get.  Walnut and Bronze, here we come.

I don't think the MIAC coaches poll has been posted yet.  Here it is: http://www.miacathletics.com/sports/fball/2017-18/releases/20170824ilaqa2

1.  St. Thomas (7)  63
2.  Saint John's (2)  58
3.  Concordia  50
4.  Bethel  43
5.  Gustavus Adolphus  34
6.  Hamline  27
7.  Augsburg  21
8.  St. Olaf  18
9.  Carleton  10

So, two coaches voted for the Johnnies.  St Glenn, of course, and who else?

So is this an indication that another coach believes SJU is the better team or is it a "behind the back" insult...get it...behind the back!!! ;D

Going to dig up an old bone of contention before the season even starts - the lack of turf at Royal stadium.

I just read this: http://d3football.com/seasons/2017/contrib/201708284rif6f and I quote: "The Spartans (8-2 overall, and 6-2 in IIAC in 2016) will play on a grass field when they travel to Minnesota. UD has played just one game in the last 27 contests on a real grass field."

Maybe this will give BU the edge it needs to win this week - ha! ;D

I wish I was a wealthy alum that could donate a bazillion dollars to get the field redone, but alas, I am not. It's just that I haven't heard boo about any field or stadium upgrades in a real long time. Anybody out there got any updated intel to report?

My money is on Concordia casting the second SJU vote. UST squeaked past them last season, while SJU beat them handily.

I do not, but based on where they're at on other building projects, I hope that the stadium's day is coming.  The student center being completed ~8 or so years ago, the fitness center a few years back, followed by the renovation / new court in the gym...hopefully turf is somewhere in line?
