For anyone that would like to hash this out over beers or ciders in the presence of my mediator (my wife, she's a diplomat so she gets uncomfortable with conflict, so I'll be on my best behavior), we will potentially be at Tanzenwald for a beer and lunch before the game and then maybe Keepsake Cidery after the game.

Is it legal to rush a blocker and tackle the guy with the ball while he is still on his feet, provided contact is not made with the head and there is no targeting or launching?

I gave you the link to the NCAA football rule book, why don't you look it up yourself.

Guess you missed the sarcasm.

I suspect the refs thought that blowing the victory formation was malicious (and unsportsmanlike) rather than a genuine attempt to play.  Almost the entire Tommie team stayed in place on that snap but 91 shot into the backfield smashing players left and right.

EDIT:  I went and watched the play again to double check and 91 is the only player that shot the formation.  44 made a half-hearted attempt but it went nowhere.  Every other Tommie stood to let time expire.  Unsportsmanlike.

About the 3:12:00 mark of the game replay.  I couldn't figure out the direct link but if you scroll down the list on this page and click the replay then it works.

Let me ask this, if this happened on the first play of the game (which I understand wouldn't happen because no one would be in victory formation then), but if it did, would it be considered unsportsmanlike then? I seriously doubt it, and if it wouldn't be a foul then, it shouldn't be a foul at the end of the game, especially in a 1 score game.

I'm looking forward to this particular tempest passing but you do ask an interesting question.  Context makes a difference. Not just in this case but in almost any judgement scenario you can imagine.

I recorded the Vikings game and just watched it.  Bradford.  The running backs.  The O line.  All of them look good.

This team is setting me up for massive heartache, isn't it?

Bradford wasn't just "good.' He was MVPish. And you forgot the pride of Minnesota State (Mankato). Adam Thielen.

But, in answer to your question, Very likely.

NFC Championship against the Packers.

Well, it is possible but not very comforting. It would be similar to me having a 12 foot left to right downhill putt to win the US Open. Possible, but not vert comforting. :-\
As of now they're on DOUBLE SECRET Probation!

I think OZ hits it on the head, totally unsportsmanlike and bush league. You want to start giving the Tommies the benefit of the doubt, but they keep doing things like this to reinforce the negative stereotype. Take the loss, lick your wounds and bounce back the next week. Absolutely dirty play and i would imagine most referees would flag it.

Johnnie fans should be accustomed to having a few early season victories setting up expectations, only to be crushed after losing to your rival (or Concordia).

- Says the Tommie fan after a crushing loss to Stout. Yes, I am self-aware.

UWP struggled quite a bit against George Fox it seems. If Stout can pull another one out this weekend I'll feel a bit better about UST.

Stout doesn't play again until September 30th. This Saturday was a bye week and then the game scheduled for the 23rd got cancelled right before the season so it's an extended 2 bye weeks.

Oh yes. Trinity Bible College and their 17 players. For the best probably.

Oh come now -- they played a whole 26 players against Grinnell!  ::)

Is an Arseneault now coaching football for Grinnell as well?

Puhleeeeease. It was a ONE SCORE GAME. There was 30+ seconds on the clock. The "victory formation" by its very design is constructed to prevent anything catastrophic from happening: two guys angled at a 45 degree angle a yard behind the QB staring at the snap, your best athlete deep to prevent a scoop and score, the tight formation. It's not an intentional walk in beer league softball where everyone just agrees on the outcome. It's a football play. It just so happened only 1.5 guys treated it as such.

I'll repeat what I said a couple of days ago, the rest of the team quit and only #91 played as he was coached.  Something to work on in practice.

GameDay going to NYC next week.  Damn, that's a bummer, thought there was an outside shot they'd be at Target.

I'd blame Stout but this decision was likely made months ago.  It's getting near universal hate from everything I'm seeing, but people will complain no matter where they go.
