I'll swing my church and do my penance for bringing up the Wheaton article here.  And they should feel doubly rotten for waiting 18 months and letting this blow up in Johnnie/Tommie week.

Tommies still suck more though.

Absolutely. We should be focused on what is important: Who has more class. My 3-year old who goes to half-day preschool OR the Johnnie coaching staff.
Tough call.

There is no allegation of racial slurs. Race doesn't enter into it; what with the school involved being Wheaton, the odds are pretty good that the victim was just as melanin-challenged as are the five alleged perpetrators. They did play "Muslim music" (whatever that is) and allegedly intimated to the alleged victim (who'd had a pillowcase forced over his head) that they were terrorists who were going to treat him the way that Muslim terrorists treat a goat (or something like that), but there were no racial slurs involved.
According to Deadspin, quoting the Chicago Tribune article: "the players... made offensive comments about Muslims"
I imagine that could be interpreted as racial slurs.

Yeah, wrongly interpreted. There's no such race as "Muslim".

Quote from: jamtoTommie on September 19, 2017, 09:57:03 PMNot sure why it was relevant or why they chose to go that route with intimidation, unless perhaps the player was of Middle Eastern descent.

Or unless they're students at a socially sheltered college who haven't seen much of the world and think "Muslim" equals "bad." In this context, framing their target as Muslim is a way to downplay their humanity. That's likely the case here...

... except that it was the alleged perpetrators who claimed to be Muslim.

Don't try to figure it out, jamtoTommie. College kids frequently do stupid things, just as sure as the sun comes up every morning. The prefrontal cortex of the human brain, the part of your noggin that controls reason and judgment, isn't fully developed until age 25. (Boy, I feel as though I'm adding potential fodder to Tommie/Johnnie Week. ;)) Every year, without fail, young people on college campuses prove that over and over again.

That's interesting. Has your 3-year old ever tried to go 100-0 on a grossly overmatched opponent and then answered critiques of this approach with what's equivalent to "Aw Shucks?"

Q. What does the average Johnnie football player get on his/her ACT?
      A. Drool.

Q. What do you tell the SJU cheerleader to pick her up after she smiles at you?
                A. Nothing. There are no woman or cheerleaders at St John's

Q. What do you have when you get 32 SJU fans together?
      A. A full set of teeth.

Have you heard the news?  Coach Fasching is only going to dress 22 players for the game
against Saint Thomas.  The rest of the players have to dress themselves.

If a couple from Stearns County get a divorce, are they still brother and sister?

Q: What do you call a good looking girl on the SJU campus?
A: A visitor.

My 3-year old would certainly not apologize or feel bad about it.

I think being a Johnnie sounds comforting. Four years of college, decades of middle management, and then a decent retirement. Living vicariously through a football team. Sounds like the American dream...

Mr.MIAC

So when Johnnies find a love interest do they have to walk her around the arena a few times or can they take her home straightaway?

I'm trying not to get banned or overly offend Nellie Oleson. That being said, whenever I think of the Johnnies one phrase comes to mind: "That's vagtastic." Maybe it's just me...but probably not.

You make me sick when you speak Morris.

A Tommie coed goes into the pro shop and looks around frowning.  Finally the pro asks her what she wants. "I cant find any green golf balls," the lovely coed complains.  The pro looks all over the shop, and through all the catalogs, and finally calls the manufacturers and determines that sure enough, there are no green golf balls.

As the coed walks out the door in disgust, the pro asks her, "Before you go, could you tell me why you want green golf balls?"

"Well obviously, because they would be so much easier to find in the sand traps!"
