Anyone listen to the podcast? Pat gave his game ball to #91.   ;D

I was surprised at how much Jeremy Molina was part of the game plan as a ball handler. With Roberts, Trettel and Parks all presumably healthy, to have your fullback carry 9 times just shows how much faith Caruso has in him.

Between, Molina, Trettel, Roberts and Parks there were about 39 carries. Roberts is still the work house, and though his YPC didn't really reflect it, I thought he ran the ball with more authority on Saturday. He seemed to be more confident and was able to move the pile a bit.

UST still had an absurd amount of penalties, but the big difference between this game and UW Stout was the ability to get off the field on 3rd down. That was huge.

Anyway, out of 37,355 people in attendance, the one guy I decided to strike up a random conversation with turned out to be Hansen Ratings, which was cool. In an ode to Hansen Ratings, there was only a .0000267% chance of that happening.

You were a former fullback (technically, as benchwarmer isn't an official position on the roster), right? What years were you at UST? We may have been around at the same time.

We had too many penalties still, but I think a lot of it for both teams was related to crowd noise and nerves. And holding SJU to 0-11 on 3rd down and that big 4th down stop at the end was huge.

I also met Mr Ratings, but it was a bit more planned. He was easy to spot as the only (? I assume) guy in the crowd with a Wartburg shirt on.

I enjoyed that. Jochum has played well and he's definitely been the most talked about name on a d-line with some other talented players. Mostly for good things, even.

Looks like 2018 & 2019 is open on the SJU non-conference schedule.

http://www.d3football.com/opendates/2018/index

Not much out there to work with opponent wise however. MHB is open on the exact dates, but that is a very challenging endeavor and expensive travel if you do a home and home. Whitewater has openings, but not on the same dates. You would need some serious conference schedule jockeying to make that one work.  Muhlenberg would be a fun test, but is only open one year, and requires some serious travel.

Is there anyway to determine what other teams have locked in for future non-conference? I suppose UST will stick with the Eau Claire matchup, but this is year 2 for Stout, so that might change?

Good question. Not sure. Unlike DI, I dont think we see a lot of future schedules posted. For UST I assume it will always be a home away mix with 2 of the following (LaCrosse, Stout, Eau Claire, River Falls). Wish we could see a little variety in there with a top tier IIAC school, but I don't think that interest from the IIAC is reciprocated.

He is from Stearns County too. Even better!

A fun sidenote from Saturday's game is the guys that have made major position switches in their time at UST and found great success. Jochum came in as a Fullback. Arguably the best LB on the field on Saturday, Andrews, spent his first couple years as a QB. Gabe Green was a scholarship DI QB. Position switches are common, but these are major shifts and they have worked out great for the kids involved.

Who was our 2nd starting CB? Lorch is the only CB that showed up on the stat sheet, but I didn't notice if Franzese was back or if Petersmeyer (or Lorch?) got the start?

Mark Dowdle.  Been playing well this year.  SJU definitely didn't throw his way much (if at all).

In my mind he's the #1 CB that was already factoring in, as he's played every game. Who was the other?

Franzese started the year but got hurt in game 1.  Believe it's been mostly Petersmeyer at the other CB spot since then.

Can we all agree that his hair is awful?

I'd say about the same as SJU's CB from California the last few previous years.

The only thing I found truly awful from Saturday was UST's punt return game. What a difference a Waldvogel can make.

Oh yeah.  Trevor Warner's hair was bad, too.  I don't like this trend of long hair on football players.

For sure...way too much of that, IMO, at BU as well, though a number of them did it a few years ago for the purpose of donating it.

#91's hair is next level bad, more so than Warner's, as it appears that he dyed it at some point?  Have some self respect, man.

I blame Clay Matthews.

I can say it seems like it'd be a miserable experience having Fabio hair on a 90 degree day tucked under my helmet.

After the first punt return fumble by the current No. 4, I joked to the guy next to me in the press box that Fritz Waldvogel should walk out there and demand he take that number off.
