MIAC PICK-EMS
WEEK 4 STANDINGS

Week 5 Sep. 30

Conference: 3pts

Bethel (+21.5) @ #9 St. John's
Gustavus (+18.5) @ #21 Concordia
#7 St. Thomas @ Augsburg (+35.5)
Carleton (+10.5) @ Hamline

National: 1pt

#22 UW-Stout (+13.5) @ #12 UW-Platteville

I can only speak for myself, but the Stout vs. Platteville game might have more intrigue and interest than UST vs. Aggie Tech.

It is interesting. I am curious what the practice and game plan philosophy of a coach is when you essentially have 3 weeks to game plan for one team. Stout hasn't played since that UST game. There are some positives to that, but a lot of negatives as well. Oshkosh looks like the WIAC frontrunner, but we get to find out in the next few weeks if someone like Platteville, Stout, or LaCrosse wants to make a play for a WIAC title as well.

Not that you guys would worry but due to a close relationship, Augsburg actually scrimmages Stout each year. Even though Auggie HC Frank Haege graduated from Stout and played I believe tight end, I don't think Stout would share any info about UST. Or would they?

Augsburg has played UST every year since Caruso took over, I doubt Stout has anything to tell Coach Haege that he doesn't already know. Add that to the fact that UST losing, or even playing a close game with Augsburg, hurts Stout's chances of making the playoffs should they have a two loss season, makes me believe that conversation is not happening this week.

I would be shocked if Coach Haege wasn't calling up Stout to talk scheme and game planning against St. Thomas given that relationship. Even if you're familiar with a team (or especially if you're too familiar), bouncing ideas off of someone else (especially if they beat them) always helps.

All I'm saying is if I'm Stout, Augsburg can go kick rocks. Auggie beating UST in no way helps Stout. It actually hurts. In all reality, Stout probably loses at least two games. If they're sitting at 7-2 or 8-1 and don't win the WIAC, they want a 9-1 UST team ranked in the top 10.

It's not like they don't all have all the film to look at anyway.

Sidenote:  St. Scholastica is 3-0 in the UMAC and outscoring opponents 132-48.  How terrible is the UMAC?  ::)
We've been better?  How many MIAC alumni were playing in the NFL yesterday?  St. Thomas might have an FCS transfer at RB, but the UMAC has an SEC transfer at RB.

Yeah, it's probably as bad as it's been, but better days are ahead.

So you are basing the quality of an entire conference on 1 player?  ???

I think you may have missed some intended sarcasm.   ;)

Or perhaps I'm missing yours?

Maybe I missed it - just sounded like he was comparing the 2 conferences on the sole reason that the MIAC has a FCS transfer and UMAC has a SEC transfer. But if it was meant as sarcasm, then my apologies. (so hard to tell when no emoticons are present)

I agree with USTBench. While there is a relationship, the Stout coaches are coming off a run of poor seasons. After a nice win at Simpson and an upset win at home, I doubt they have time for anything but getting ready for @Platteville #12.

Just getting to Platteville from Menomonie is a bitch. It's 4 hours of funky 2 lane with many turns. Like St.Paul to Moorhead without I-94 or HWY 10 via every small town on the way. When you get there you find yourself 20 miles from Dubuque IA. and only 12 miles north of the Illinois border.  And then play a very good team that isn't going to be taking the game for granted.

The Blue Devils have their hands full with their own opponent versus worrying about helping someone else out.

Sure, I can share some:If you are ahead late in the 4th quarter, don't go into your victory formation too early :-[

Love the chirp from Stout!

They've earned it. After all, they have been able to do something SJU hasn't in the last 1,100 days by beating UST.

It's not like they don't all have all the film to look at anyway.

Which makes me wonder, with almost all games streamed live these days, do future opponents spend time watching (recording?) those streams?  This is not directed at any specific team, but more just a general question, really across all levels of college football.  I'd guess the MIAC has a conference rule on what's allowed and what's not.

I know teams trade "all 22" tape, for a couple games, but of what value are the other games not traded?

sowilson

Given the coaching workload and pathetic to nonexistent pay for assistant coaches I doubt much time would be spent on recording a streaming feed and then trying to break it down into HUDL.

Yes.

Now, all conference games are automatically exchanged but if you thought as UST that you could learn something from watching Stout play Simpson to open the season and you weren't going to get that game footage otherwise, absolutely you're recording the livestream. Or, if you're a team expecting to make the playoffs, you likely have a GA making sure you grab as many games for anyone within 500 miles before Selection Sunday.
