It appears UST football, and more specifically their fans, are not believers in the "If you build it they will come" mantra from Field of Dreams. One week after hosting the largest D3 crowd in history they combined with Augsburg to produce a total of 937 spectators for their road game this weekend.

This Saturday will be their first time back on campus since the Target Field game. Good luck to them as they try and surpass the 2,200 fans that came the last time they hosted Concordia.

Could draw more fans though, I recall the Wartburg game drew 2,700 a few years ago.

For the Gustavus and Northwestern games, were a majority of those fans from the visiting school? From what I gather, at the game on Saturday, a good number of the fans in attendance were from St Thomas.

Still, this is an area that we've got room for improvement and where I'm a bit jealous of the dedication of SJU fans. They've got years of culture and dedication ingrained in the alumni as pride for the school and football team. The St Thomas sections are relatively disappointed, with mostly parents still.
I was not at the GAC game so no idea but there were clearly many NW fans at that 1st game yes. Not really an overwhelming number of NW fans, it was alumni night at that game so we had about 300 football alumni there for free food in Murphy Square park before the game. The Alumni Event was a great get together and the parents of the current players were there too so we had good attendance at the game and the pregame event.

bench I did that on Saturday, fought traffic from the Gopher game to Auggie. I parked at the lot across Riverside Ave that is on the U of M campus which costs $4 but its a guaranteed spot. Lot 94 is a short walk to the field and I avoided searching for parking on the street because I was in a hurry to see the mighty Tommies.  :P

Conceal and Carry? Who would check you? Nobody. I have spent a lot of time in Minneapolis and a few days in Brooklyn NY. I am not afraid of anything going on in that neighborhood.

I blame the SJU fans for calling you Auggie Tech. Can't blame me, I'm just a frightened North Dakota rube taking their word for it.

For those that do the Purple on the Plaza, what sort food and beverage do they sell out on the quad nowadays? Do they sell beer? A couple years back our tailgating beer was confiscated. I'd rather not deal with that again.

Nah. Modified.

I was a back up fullback. Probs got CTE. Had to go against the first team defense everyday. Just glad I can still type.

The lesson to be learned here is that UST and Auggie should employ the same guy that counts attendance @ Clemens, or at least find out what his mileage radius is for counting or multiplier is when they have lighter crowds. I think he also works for the Tampa Bay Rays counting attendance as well.

SJU has a nice following but the attendance counts border absurdity with some frequency. It was nice though that they accounted for a whopping 200 more fans when they visited Augsburg last year.

The SJUrube schtick of attacking current UST football players was at least a little more well though out, albeit classless, and definitely doesn't meet the "what would Gags do" moral standard.

Something is hitting the Johnnie faithful hard the last 24 hours. We have covered a seasons worth of predictable punchlines like your coach is leaving, our attendance is better than yours, and our good old days are better than your current days.

If anything ever broke out, there are usually 10-12 bad ass Auggie wrestlers working the game so it would be whole lot of fun to see what they would do to anyone who got out of hand.  Eh, it never happens.

My apologies. I didn't realize the chest puffing coming from Summit Avenue a week ago had a shelf date on it. Feel free to bring us back to whatever great topic we pulled your focus from.

I think we were focused on the rise of Johnnie EnvyTM and job (in)security up in Collegeville. Any input?

There was a nice contingent of GAC fans in the stands at the Augsburg game (between 1/3-1/2 in the stands)

The first team defense during your era didn't hit that hard, except John Kaiser, the last of the Great Kaisers.  ;)

Nice! Enjoying the highly diverse and culturally significant Cedar Riverside area, well done!  If I recall correctly the parking was limited for that game by the big crowd at Augsburg for the Noble Peace Prize Forum. http://nobelpeaceprizeforum.org/live/

Congrats to NW and GAC fans for being so brave as to conquer such death defying feats as: finding a parking spot; alone and without your driver and avoiding a mugging by phantom hoodlums that don't exist.
