Take a gander (pun intended) at the Florida Gator Swamp Green ones although I've seen worse helmets.
Nothing the Ducks have wore is that bad! Those are awful.

I blame the Kardashians.

Looks like a good win for UST's sister school:

It's funny you always claim this.  Aren't sisters usually at least aware of each other?

I'll turn the other cheek. I'm sure this season has been emotionally challenging. I wish the Johnnies good luck next year.

Well, this is where I think we are:

@ Defense is very good, as usual.  I think they could be vulnerable to large o lines, particularly if they spend too much time on the field, but can hold any offense down.

@ The offense is not polished. A lot of talent but some real lack of imagination issues and a lack of variety. The O line is susceptible to stunts and blitzes. It leaks like a leaky leak. It’s not big enough to block a run game and not slick enough to support a passing game. With our great receiving corp and great arm, I would like we would be all air all the time but it doesn’t seem as if the offense has been practiced that way.

So I think that against anything but the top tier teams we can play a good game. But we’ll struggle from the second round onwards, if we get past Concordia.

The "announcer" for Carlton deemed the O line "huge." ??

I think the biggest problem for the offense is lack of focus. Multiple penalties week after week for such things as "Too many men in the huddle." "Illegal formation." "delay of game" (maybe more of a coach problem) and "illegal shift" are just unforgivable at this point in the season. If they could clean up those, and some the defense is making at seemingly crucial times, it would be a lot more productive.

Whoa! too many quotation marks in that one.

That announcer was kind of entertaining in his own way.  I read where he's been there for quite a while too, 25+ years maybe?

Agree totally with the comments about the O, made in this post and others.  My wife and I always say "time to get out the index cards", referring to the "urban myth" or maybe reality (some of you would know) that Gagliardi had his "trick plays" written on index cards and would pull them out when needed.  Not to dump on Jimmy G, but you have to wonder, if Fasching brought in Ramler when he came in, why is Jimmy okay now?  Seems like a new approach is warranted at this point?  Some more "creative" ways to get the ball down the field.

The many mistakes and penalties are frustrating.  Not getting plays in on time.  Etc.

Gotta get the ball to Clark more.  Here's the stats - Clark has 17 receptions in 6 games, so say 3 per game, and avg. 19.5 yards per catch.  He's had 6 rush attempts in 6 games, avg. 17.3.  Josh Bungum senior year had 58 catches in 12 games, so say 5 per game, and avg. 15.4.  He rushed 23 times in 12 games, so 2 per game, and avg. 5.6.  Just feels like they're not riding their best horse.  Needs a few more touches per game.

I know many people don't like the "two headed QB", but Alvord as a change of pace seems to always bring a lot to the table.  Fasching seems very conservative in his approach to this.

Now, all this is said with SJU being 5-1 this year and 10-2 last year.  So it's not like the wheels are falling off.  But sometimes you just shake your head sitting there watching.

Has anyone heard from tmerton lately?  Is he threatened by the Napa fires?
Saw on FB yesterday posted by Roger Dierkhising, that Calistoga was evacuated. That's home to 5 or so Dirks, now anchors in area wine and hospitality trades. Family noted locally for founding  LaPlayette and Kay's Kitchen.

My wife is a cousin to the Dirks, reported today (Sunday) from out there that all are "okay", but the situation is "touch and go".  Still some concern.

MIAC Week 8 2017

I haven't seen it mentioned yet here on the MIAC board, but it's been somewhat of an anomaly the last couple of weeks in the conference. Two weeks ago all the home teams won and this past week, all the visiting teams won.  I don't expect that pattern to continue this week.

Bethel has the bye this week. They get an extra week to mend and come up with a game plan to try to upset St. Thomas.

Blowout game of the week - St. Thomas travels down to Hamline. It's going to be a tough week to be a Piper fan.

Augsburg is at Concordia Moorhead this week. The Cobbers appeared to have their offense rolling again, but I expect the Auggies to put up some points and give them more of a tussle than the Pipers did this past week.

Gustavus is on the road this week up to Collegeville to take on the Johnnies. This might be in the running for the biggest blow-out for the week, but only if the Gusties self-destruct. If they play hard and keep their wits about themselves, this game could be the second closest game in the MIAC this week.

The game of the week is the clash down in Northfield for the Goat Trophy between Carleton and St. Olaf. This year's game is being played at St. Olaf and the Knights are win-less so far this season. However, as you look at the rest of their schedule, this game is their best chance for a win - at least on paper. But I think the Oles will win this year.

He drew up plays on index cards all the time!

Travels down to Hamline? Hamline isn't in Red Wing anymore  ;)

In all seriousness, I always enjoy seeing your previews to start off the week, although I don't envision Augsburg and Gustavus causing the Cobbers and Johnnies as much trouble as you do.
