I would'nt know what to say on the SCIAC board. I don't know those people. I enjoy reading your posts though. Good stuff.

I prefer my football without politics. Thank you very much.

At Homecoming Congressman Nolan was glad-handing the crowd. I'm not in your district, just let me watch the game .....  :-\

I took this dialect test and it placed me in the country dead on. I speak most like people in the Twin Cities, Milwaukee and Madison. Go figure.

More people are always welcome here, MUC57. Even if they are dirty, rotten, no good purple wearers.

I was wondering what 24 years of living in Oz would do to my dialect and I’m a mishmash. It says I’m from Detroit (not Detroit!) with a very heavy Minnesota influence and very broad western US.  Basically, I’m a linguistic hobo without a home. *snif*

Basically, things that are part of every day usage (drinking fountain, soft drink) pulled me out of Minnesota while things that aren’t in usage here (firefly, kitty-corner) kept me with my roots.

It put me squarely in Western New York where I was from 4th grade to second year of college. Been in MN since then.

This dialect talk reminds me of a day back when I was finishing school at SJU and Mrs Oz was working for a St Cloud law firm as a paralegal assisting with wills, probate and estate planning.  She did a lot of work with farming families in the area protecting their assets from the death tax.  One day at dinner she was laughing as she told the story of an asset wealthy farmer coming in to finish off his paper work dressed in worn blue jeans and an old plaid work shirt.  She was bemused at how different the value of his family's farm was from his appearance. But what really made her laugh was when he told her, "You talk funny!"  She still tells that story from time to time and chuckles.

Her favourite two Minnesota foods, by the way, are tatertot hotdish and the old snickers, marshmallow, whipped cream and fruit salad.  They are so far away from anything that Australians eat that they form some of her fondest memories of Minnesota.

I forgot to tell you that I enjoy your posts also. You are one of the people I read on a regular basis.
Always very entertaining!
May all your cuckoos burrow (I know that isn't right) and, ready? May all your diidgeree dos!
It's painfully obvious I've never been to your part of the world.
When you say dirty, rotten purple wearer, what exactly.......Oh, never mind.

Ha!  Kookaburra. A cuckoo burrow sounds like a hole that a crazy old hermit would dig for himself. ;)

Oz,
Next weekend Mrs. 105 & myself are heading to your old stomping grounds....Hill City! Big weekend hitting the ATV trails around the old Quadna resort. It should be a hoot, with the group we are going with! All I can hope for is a cold rain to make the trails real muddy!! ;D
As of now they're on DOUBLE SECRET Probation!

OzJohnnie

Ah, Quadna.  A high school girlfriend had a job there serving in the restaurant when it was still a ski resort. “Hilly Holly” my debate coach used to call her in far more politically incorrect times.

Have a good trip, 105. I hope you get covered in mud.

In my office we have enough millennials that we have weekly "shout outs" in our staff meetings. This week a couple of coworkers were thanking me for something and they ended with "Go Johnnies"! I couldn't be prouder! ;D

Well, says I am from Madison/Milwaukee/St. Paul-from northern Illinois-except 4 years at SJU-so kind of close.
