This is still the best football song I've heard that features a coach, dean and choir director.

The classic...The Bears Packers Still Suck polka

"We don't really hold a grudge 'cause this is all in fun
As far as football rivalries we're both number one
Still we wouldn't mind seeing Ditka McCarthy run over by a truck
'Cause the Bears Packers...Still...Suck

The Bears Packers still suck, the Bears Packers still suck
The Bears Packers still suck, the Bears Packers still suck
They really really really really really really suck
Yes the Bears Packers ...Still...Suck"
Fixed it  ;D

It seems I've unleashed a monster. :D

Keep 'em coming!

I really had no idea there were so many "football songs".

One of the versus in American Pie by Don McLean references football:

The players tried for a forward pass
With the jester on the sidelines in a cast

Now the half-time air was sweet perfume
While sergeants played a marching tune
We all got up to dance
Oh, but we never got the chance

'Cause the players tried to take the field
The marching band refused to yield

Played ball every single fall/
I could run just like the wind/
I went to college like they asked me to/
But they didn't ask my friends/
Don't think I seen a single classroom but I drank a lot of beer/
My buddies still love to listen to me when I talk about that year

We're both hosting dances these days, but this 2006 video actually pre-dates that change.   That was a rule-breaking dance in the crypt below the chapel.

sfury, is this for real?

Amazing piece, right? I mean, I think some of the quotes are fairly tongue-in-cheek, but I have no doubt some people really are upset about it. I was thinking, maybe there were Carleton fans expressing similar thoughts in 1992 or 2008. Or if Macalester returned to the MIAC and suddenly went undefeated (which is about as improbable as Columbia doing it this year) I wouldn't be surprised if some from that campus's past expressed sincere regret at athletic success.

"When my husband told me that Columbia had beaten Penn, I said, 'That's bad news,'" said Ms. Chung's classmate Jill Levey, a New Jersey fund-raising consultant.  "When I went to Columbia, we prided ourselves on being anti-football and pro-intellectual.  Can't we retain our pride in being anti-athletic intellectual nerds?"

...

But Mr. Passaro, among others, is not satisfied.  For him, today's Lions symbolize a cheerful, rah-rah Columbia that he derides as "Princeton on the Hudson." To his mind, the authentic Columbia is the scrappy institution of higher learning he attended in the 1970's - when New York was bankrupt, the Baker Field stadium was rotting and the Lions were reassuringly predictable bums.

"Whatever this miraculous thing is that you're telling me about, I don't understand it and I don't like it," Mr. Passaro said.  "My Columbia was a happily bohemian place and I wish it were still."

Yes, I suppose it is in some part tongue-in-cheek but I suspect not entirely.  The world is funny.  I like the part I came from.
