I'm sure a few others recall when BU blocked a Wartburg PAT and returned it for 1 point in a playoff game...only to have the referee come back several drives later and award a second point for the play that had happened a while earlier.  I think it was maybe Pat, or someone from D3Football who alerted the officials to the improper application of the rule.

It was potentially a big deal, as it prompted Bethel to go for 2 after a later touchdown (before the 2nd point had been awarded), which they were successful at, but could have really impacted the game.

It's one thing to have a disagreement about judgement calls, but to totally get a rule of the game wrong was pretty sad for a playoff game.  Can't remember where that crew was from.

This is why it should be worth 12 points. EVERYONE would remember that rule.  Plus, more teams would employ more effort in blocking the PAT, which would get more teams to go for 2 instead, making FOOTBAWWW more fun.

More fun is good, imvh&co (in my very humble & classy opinion). Maybe we could get all the teams in the MIAC to start trying behind the back 2 point conversions, like how many of them are trying the QB quick kick now. RIP Bethel QB as punter. I have to think the Tommie defense got a special satisfaction out of blocking that one.

I laughed so hard when Bethel did that. Especially after they already had an extra point blocked for a 2 point return and a punt blocked for a TD, and watched UST quick kick twice. First of all, UST's QB usually lines up in a typical shotgun formation, then backs up two more yards to give himself more room. The Bethel QB did not back up, and had a very bad time.

I even said to my dad, "Dear God I hope they're not going to attempt to quick kick here. I hope they're just trying to get UST to jump offsides." It seemed like they made the conscious decision to attempt something relatively difficult they had never practiced before against an opponent who does it effectively and routinely, and did it twice that day already. Like a kid brother copying his big brother. It was awkward.

I looked it up after the game and saw that their QB has had a number of them this year, apparently somewhat successful. I presume Bethel's website stats are not updated with Saturday's game, but he's listed as 8 attempts for 276 yards, 34.5 average with 5 of those inside the 20 and none blocked.

Which makes it even worse that it went so horribly wrong. I think everyone who got a feel for the game up to that point knew how disastrous it would be should they attempt a quick kick there. Not exactly a secret UST was bringing the house and your QB is attempting to punt from 5 yards behind the line of scrimmage.

*note: now that I watch it again, it just looked like Matt Mitchell came free up the A-gap and could have picked the ball off his toe. Such a bad call.

Yep, that was us. We weren't at that game, even, but our photographer alerted us to the fact that the officials didn't know the rule and we probably did help in it getting fixed.

Nothing to do with football. Does the "57" in your sign on mean the same as the "57" in mine?
Just curious! Oh, and good luck to your team.
It means that I graduated in 1957 which was the 100th anniversary of SJU. :)
I guess it makes the University 160 this year.
Thank you.

A pair of 57's! Outstanding.  8-)

Just as I thought. I also graduated from Mount Union in 1957. Hey, we're doing OK! These young kids on our respective teams seem to be doing OK also.
Good luck to the Purple Raiders and the St. John's Johnnies
I hope we both get to enjoy some more memorable games between the two great schools.

I heard STU got a new qb transfer from Chicago Poly Institute of SausageMaking. He dominated his jr high at 5- 3" and 320.

Your picture of the two '57 cars was priceless. This, of course, a reference to 57Johnnie and myself having graduated in 1957! I always thought you were one of the good guys. I will continue to read your posts.
May all your boomerangs return. (Well, I don't know what to say to someone down under).
Go UMU and SJU.

At SJU's homecoming this year, I chatted with a '53 SJU grad!  It made me recall meeting 57Johnnie a few years ago.  Was that the last time you were on campus, 57Johnnie?

UST's Chris Fondakowski also made it for special teams, for his part in the 2-pt return (making the lateral to Swenson) and the punt block + return.

How do you know that postseason is on the horizon? The lightweight Linfield trolls come out of their lairs to flirt with the Johnnies and heckle the Tommies.

You walk a little taller after squeaking by a 2-4 juggernaut like Pacific Lutheran.
