Hey hey now fellas.... sausages have feelings too!  :P

Interesting developments over the weekend that should cause concern for SJU fans.
St. Scholastica lost to something called Eureka in the UMAC. St. Scholastica and Eureka are now tied for the conference lead. I would believe that Eureka would hold the tie-breaker with the head to head win. Next weekend is the end of conference play and on paper Eureka has an easier game.
Now the SJU faithful who have been arguing that St. Scholastica will win the UMAC and improve SJU's strength by defeating a AQ by a score of 98-0 on opening weekend. So, how does that theory hold up when St. Scholastica does not qualify for post season play?

Now to add more fuel to the fire the game against NAIA Presentation doesn't exist in the eyes of the committee. If SJU gets past Concordis on Nov. 11, they will have an 8-1 record in the eyes of the committee. Does an 8-1 SJU team with a weak strength of schedule get in over a second place WIAC or CCIW team,no matter if they are also 8-1? I'm beginning to have some doubts. 2017 could be the year that SJU misses the play-offs and their weak non-conference schedule seals their fate.
As of now they're on DOUBLE SECRET Probation!

Eureka is Ronald Reagan's alma mater, as a point of interest.

Is this some sort of avant garde type of trolling? Because, if it is, I've seen it done better.

Chicago Tommie for example.

I'm interested to hear more thoughts on this from folks who get deeper into playoff understandings that I do...while I hold no ill will against SJU, and would probably overall prefer to see the MIAC have 2 representatives in the playoffs, I admit that I would experience some schadenfreude if the Johnnies were to have their pathetic non-conference choices come back to bite them...

After the Cobbers beat them there won't be much of a need to debate this.

While not a defense of scheduling weak sisters for non-con games, please understand the thinking behind the St Scholastica game. First, the game was scheduled years ago. There is a SJU/ST S nexus. Can you predict who will improve, or regress 3, 4 or 5 years from now? How much will that change be? Presentation, on the other hand was a worthy opponent IMO. It was also a no lose opponent, since, as you say, it really doesn't count. It did give the Johnnies a better understanding of their competence, though.

In the end, the Concordia game, I believe, is the decider. Whoever wins will hav a RRO win, which should give that team a strong argument for being selected.

I'll gladly admit if I'm wrong but I see no way a 1 loss SJU doesn't get in - particularly when the 1 loss was a 3 point loss to a top 5 ranked team. The CSS loss hurts but playoff bids aren't awarded strictly by mathematical formula.

If the final bid comes down to SJU and the runner up in the WIAC, the worst case scenario for SJU would be Whitewater winning out as they would be a "name brand" team for the committee. However, their best case record is 7-3, with a loss to a team the 8-1 (9-1) Johnnies would have beaten. And even though UWW has a loss on their resume against a top 5 team, it was a 17 point loss.

Lots can happen over the final two weeks so I won't get worried until the D3 crew releases their projections and has SJU on the outside looking in.

True - but you knew regardless that the UMAC generally sucks at football (Sorry AO), so you probably weren't going to get anything useful out of playing them anyway, and by scheduling a team from the UMAC, you swing the door wide open to the team you play potentially not winning the conference and doing you harm.  Not an issue if you choose a better conference.
