MIAC PICK-EMS
WEEK 10 STANDINGS

It's been a rough last few weeks in my pickems life. If I put up a 14 this week, and everyone ahead of me steps on their collective d*cks, i could creep back into 2nd place.  The pot's not nearly as big, but it would help cover expenses...

By that logic, I guess technically I could still win it with another 14, as long as my picks are the opposite of basically everyone in front of me. I was a little disappointed with last week's 14, as it ruined my string of 7s.

So you're saying there's a chance?

That's the catch at the end of pickems...you have to decide whether you just want to get the best score you can come up with and make your picks, or wait until Tom Thumb posts, pick the opposite direction of all of his, and hope things break your way...

I'd rather see where I end up on my own merit than hope that luck gets me to the top.

With the pick'ems in mind, here's my predictions for the two games that I care about this weekend:
* If Concordia beats St John's, it will be a close, grind-it-out, low scoring affair. If St John's wins, I think they will win by at least a couple of touchdowns. St John's will win and get one of the Pool C spots, with a chance to get revenge on the Tommies in the playoff. If a rematch happens in Round 2, I might have to fly back early from my Oregon Thanksgiving visit.
* St Thomas vs St Olaf should see some interesting stuff from both sides. I don't think Caruso will be too concerned about crushing the Oles and his former assistant coaches into a fine paste if he has the opportunity. Both teams are familiar with the other's schemes and we could see some interesting chess being played here, and some aggressive game planning. I think St Olaf will keep it close for a while (I will let you judge whether a while is measured in seconds, minutes, or quarters) before St Thomas runs away with it.

You can also send me a personal message if you'd rather keep your picks private for the last week.

Nice.

Also - great call on the BU - Augsburg spread last week.

Dylan Andrew of St Thomas makes the d3football team of the week, after being involved in 7 tackles (all for loss) and a team performance allowing 1 total yard to the Gusties.

Is Herzog done for Concordia?

I've seen no indication otherwise (and it wasn't even the Dirty Tommies that ended his season). Looks like Kragnes has been getting into the grove of things lately, with a 100 yard rushing day last week (and almost 100 yards passing, which would be a big deal).

Around the Region column this week features St John's and their f1erce rush1ng attack, particularly in the red zone, converting on 41 of 48 red zone opportunities.

So what's the deal with Wartburg in the D3football.com rankings? They're undefeated with a far higher SOS than UST and SJU. The regional rankings have them above UST and SJU, which makes sense. However, in the D3football.com rankings they hover at the bottom of the top-25, well bellow UST and SJU.

No Kyle Kilgore this week...he's really fallen off. (I kid, I kid).

Different criteria. Per the NCAA criteria, Wartburg is probably where they belong. If I were a betting man, I'd take the Tommies or the Johnnies over Wartburg (even @ Wartburg) any day of the week with a beer on the line. HEAR ME HANSEN. I'M CALLING YOU OUT and I'm looking forward to you buying me a beer.
