I say DIII creates a "power conference" similar to the Big 10 called Division 2.5

West

Linfield
UST
SJU
Concordia
UW-Platteville
UW-LaCrosse
UW-Oshkosh
UW-Whitewater

East

Mount Union
Hardin Simmons
UMHB
North Central
Illinois Wesleyan
Delaware Valley
Wittenberg
Wesley

Everyone plays each other, 15 game season. Top two teams from each division play each other for the championship. Last place in each division gets relegated to Division III. Stagg Bowl Champ and Runner-Up gets promoted.

Such a smart idea. Should be making the big bucks.

Any reason for two teams in the east which are further west than any of the teams except one in the West division?

You weren't responsible for the Legends/Leaders alignment, were you?

This, from Cobber SID:

CORNGRATS to former Concordia College Football wide receiver Brandon John Zylstra who was named to the West Division All-Star Team in the CFL. Zylstra led the CFL in receiving yards and yards after catch. He also broke the Edmonton Eskimos record for 100-yard receiving games in a season. #FutureIsBright

It's always good to see the hometown boys doing well. Congrats to him. It is ironic that CON turns out a receiving all star. It just goes to show that all the Minnesota kids are well above average.

Didn't spend a lot of time peeping longitude I guess.

I'm not sure what other 2 teams you would pick to send east. The Texas teams that are on an island make sense to send east. You could split up the WIAC, but nah.

In more important matters...will there still be red cups and brats in the back corner at Clemens this Saturday?
No. New location. Look for the practice dome, this is where the baseball & soccer complexes are as well as the new tailgate area.
As of now they're on DOUBLE SECRET Probation!

Thanks! I may have trouble arriving much before kickoff, but have enjoyed the hospitality in the past. It's been a few years...

Dylan Andrew of St Thomas makes the d3football team of the week, after being involved in 7 tackles (all for loss) and a team performance allowing 1 total yard to the Gusties.

No Kyle Kilgore this week...he's really fallen off. (I kid, I kid).

Morning all, late start this week, as I was out sitting in the woods with my younger son these last five days. I can't say hunting, as we got skunked this year. Lost three and a half pounds trying to stay warm and cover the miles walking, so not a total write off.

Augsburg is done for the season, leaving the remaining eight teams to play their final regular season games.

The most lop-sided score of the week should be the St. Thomas playing on the road down in Northfield at St. Olaf. The Tommies simply rolled last week and will be able to rest their starters by half-time for their post season game or games, depending on who they pull in the bracket.

The next game with the greatest spread looks to be Hamline playing at Bethel this week. The Bethel seniors will want to go out with flourish and I expect they'll aim to finish on a high note.

Carleton travels to Gustavus for the third game in the MIAC this week. The Gusties were stymied last week and will want to end the season on a win, just like Bethel. Carleton is probably hoping to play spoiler and try to keep it close, but in the end the Knights will fall off their horses.

And last, but not least, is the game of the second half of the year in the MIAC. We've all been waiting for it since the Tommies beat the Cobbers in week six of the season, back on October 7. The Cobbers visit Collegeville for the game this year. As others have alluded to, and I concur with, if the Cobbers can keep it a close game, they stand a good chance of winning this thing. However, if their defense allows more than a three score advantage by the Johnnies, they'll be in a deep hole and unlikely to play from behind in a come back win.  And if you can believe the pundits, it looks like this is a a "play-in" game for the post season. The Tommies are in as MIAC champs, and the one loss MIAC runner-up appears to be an almost shoo-in to the 32 team field.

The Johnnies had better be ready to play from the opening whistle this week.  The 1st quarter coast from last weekend will not fly against Concordia.  I like the J's chances if they can move the ball through the air like they did versus GAC.  It'll be fun to see the Concordia offense versus a pretty solid SJU defense.  I see SJU coming out on top of this one by several scores.

The weather looks promising (37 and sunny with 7 mph winds from the WSW)!

Go Johnnies!

Projected playoff bracket is published:

They project almost a best possible scenario for St Thomas, imo. Likely home game against North Central in round 2, and then probably DelVal in round 3 before a (possible) Oshkosh rematch.
St John's would face Oshkosh in round 2.

NCC in round 2 would be very tough.

Agree. You would be trading an extremely tough 2nd round game for an easier potential quarterfinal round game, by being placed in a Del Vall region. Looking back on the last five or six years, I cant say there has been a year where the CCIW winner wasnt a top 8 team in the country. This year is no exception.

As far as what UST fans should root for this weekend, I would say its more important to have a close game than any particular team winning. A blowout might knock 1 or the other out of the regional rankings thus dropping UST's RRO win total. NO MONKEY STOMPS please, much to DuffMan's chagrin.

The D3/CFL version of Calvin Johnson. He survived an option offense at Ga Tech.
