To whom it may concern-

I am a Mount Union alumnus. Although I went to 3 graduate schools , with degrees from 2 of them, I'm having trouble understanding something. What's the point of the ACT/SAT discussion? And why the disparaging remarks about dear old UMU?
Please keep your response simple since I am a Mount grad.

Hey Fellow 57 just remember that they released all the trolls from the funny farm.
Follow my lead and don't read any post over 5 lines long or has been reposted more than once. I haven't missed anything important in over 10 years.  :)

They're saying UMU is a glorified community college and this helps the football team. Of course that's not what I'm saying.

Exactly. YOU are saying SJU (SJCC) (SJCCTM) is a glorified community college and this helps the football team.

Here we go. I know you've all been waiting on pins and needles. Academic D3 Bowl 2017 is off and running. My criteria is mostly admission standards since its fairly uniform. The big things: ACT, SAT, and class rank. If I have to I go to GPA, but overall I think that's pretty useless these days for high school kids taking all different levels of classes. Probably uniformly useless, but useless nonetheless. Without further ado.

We'll start in the Oshkosh bracket:

Oshkosh beats Lakeland in a real squeaker
SJU in a route over UWO
SJU wins by 10 over North Central

Wartburg over Franklin by a TD
Wartburg wins an OT battle against Trine
Trine over Monmouth

To the Mount Union bracket (pretty loaded btw)

W & L puts a 50 spot up on the might Mount
W&L knocks off Case in a 4 OT game. What a barnburner
Case Western in a battle over IWU (shameful 1st round bracketing by the NCAA here folks)

Hopkins wins a tough battle over W & J (also shameful bracketing)
Hopkins by 4 scores against Wittenberg
Wittenberg wins

To the MHB bracket:

Chapman over MHB by 20
Chapman wins by 3 scores against Linfield
Linfield beats Hardin Simmons in a 1 score game

UST over Eureka pretty easily
UST squeaks out a win against Berry
Berry over Huntington in a route

To the Del Vall bracket (quite soft compared to Mount's bracket btw)

Western New England wins by 2 TD's over Del Vall
WNE advances with another two score win
Springfield over Husson in the ultimate academic pillow fight

Brockport wins in the 2nd ultimate pillow fight in this bracket over Plymouth State
RPI wins it 2nd round 98-0 (who is coaching this academic power the devil Glenn Caruso himself)
RPI wins 97 - 0 over Wesley

We'll get to the quarters shortly folks. Stay tuned.

Jays are in and with a tough draw. That's unfortunate but to be the man you gotta beat the man. Win and they'll get their chance in round 2. The best SJU post season teams have had wrinkles for the playoffs. Hoping to see some of that this weekend and beyond.

Another tough finish to the season for Concordia. At least they'll have Gene McGivern's win % stat to keep them warm. I do wonder if the 6 years of near misses are taking their toll. SJU intercepted Concordia with just over a minute to go in the game. The Cobbers let SJU kneel the ball 3 consecutive times without making a final push towards the QB even though they had 1 TO remaining. Fairly easy to see the Cobbers quit. Doesn't bode well for the seasons ahead.

As for the route in Northfield, I came away impressed that the original PJ Fleck (F.A.M.I.L.Y) uses questionable judgement even when facing an old colleague/friend/etc (Not entirely accurate. I think Glenn would have beat Buffalo by more than a single score).

57Johnnie-

Thanks for the tip. We know how the Tommies  can be.
Good luck to the Johnnies Saturday. Must go watch the Raiders practice.

If my memory is correct, CWRU is a fairly prestigious academic institution. I take this to mean that IWU is also pretty strong academically? That's probably my biggest surprise from this.

He might be an-hole but he's OUR a-hole, as they say. Stopped clock is right once a day Duff, and this is your moment.

Actually a stopped clock is right twice a day - you aren't giving Duff enough credit.   ;D

No need.

I am glad he got a trophy to commemorate the future Priest's cleatmarks on his chest from the two 2015 games. UST rolled 600 yards rushing in those two games on primarily two plays: ISO & Toss Sweep all day to Hanson and Warner's side. I would look up the play by play from those games but I am diligently working on Academic Bowl 2017 right now.

They didn't have the benefit of seeing the Case Western vs Carnegie Mellon finish.  Nearly identical situation but a Case defensive lineman managed to anger the Carnegie Mellon tackle enough during the victory formation to draw an unsportsmanlike penalty and extend the game, which might have cost Wheaton or UW-Lacrosse an at-large bid.

An ah-ha for me as well. I may have overstated how close that game would be, but IWU is upper echelon academic. They dont post SAT, but ACT middle 50 is 25-29. Almost the entirety of their student body goes 24>. 3.75 Average GPA. Best comparative in the MIAC would probably be St Olaf. Slightly below the Mac's & Carleton's, but a tier above UST and Gustavus.

There are a number of comparisons that really jump out to me between the MIAC and CCIW across the board.

I thought I would just sit and smile to myself at the B quality trolling the Tommies bring to this board but since you point it out...  even at sucking the Tommies suck.
