Awards picks:

MVP: I don't know of anyone on the offensive side that really set themselves apart. Kreuger or Johnson maybe. Or Perra or Erdmann if you really stretched. But I think it's a good year to give it to a defensive guy. St Thomas and St John's both have a few options on defense that could be considered, but I'm not a great enough defensive mind to make a pick.

Coach: Terry Horan seems like a good pick this year. You could give Kilian some consideration for bumping the teams win total by more than any other team in the MIAC.

Stam (interior lineman): Jochum looked like a solid pick for a while, but he's gone about his disrupted business pretty quietly for a bit now (both in the penalty box and the positive parts of the stat sheet). Kilgore was pretty steady all year.

And...we just hit a new low with our friends from Alliance on the OAC. I have now been brought back down to earth on what class and respect truly mean.

Yore kidding me, right?  After the bestiality, homosexuality, mental and physical disability, occupational, and socioeconomic slanders made here about SJU, you're going to try and draw a line in the PC sand over the word retard?  That's funny.

No true Tommie would make such insensitive, inappropriate, and classless comments.

As someone with two siblings who are intellectually disabled I take particular offense to this type of demeaning language.

Jam, serious question:  How do I tell the difference?  As the father and father in law of Tommies I agree with you.

RoR, serious answer: I was making an ironic allusion to the No True Scotsmen fallacy. I tried to give a brief definition of it, but the Wiki does it better than I could.

To steer away from the Oz doubling down on the despicable humor I thought we had moved on from give me your best guesses on MIAC awards. I always forget those nasty words we threw away the last couple decades hasn't made it's way south of the Tropic of Capricorn yet.

That's funny. This is like watching kids play tag and claiming "Safe! Can't tag me!" whenever they are close to getting 'it'. I can understand why you suddenly choose to hide behind dainty Victorian skirts as in a battle of who is more classless the Tommies and St Glenn are undisputed champions.  But the sudden tactic to seek the safety of social delicacies after the flame-baiting rampage you started on the OAC board is mewling and weak.

If you're good with it then that's your value system. Unfortunate, but oh well. We all hold ourselves accountable. And, if I've been around here previously and not said anything to quell any of the antics you've noted previously shame on me. I apologize. It probably works best when we police ourselves or those from our own school.

Like I've said before I love the banter, especially Tommie-Johnnie. I bet I would have a great time at a tailgate with most the people around here. I've never been too fond of the rivalry t-shirts or commentary that go well beyond the blurred line.

Yeah, no. No different. There's no situational qualifier on classless insults. If you decide to hand them out then you decide to take them. Crying "No fair!" when they get turned your way is weak and unconvincing.

If yo can't take the heat then don't stay in the troll kitchen. When you choose to roll around in the muck you get dirty.

Wrong.
Convincing argument. Right up there with "Because I said so"! 8-)

Here are the 3 big awards (my picks in bold):

MVP: No one jumps out. Frisell maybe. His stats don't look so good against the big dogs though. Maybe Johnson from Concordia? Same scenario though.
Coach: Terry Horan - always the bridesmaid for Concordia, but a heck of a run, given the starting QB challenge they faced
Stam (interior lineman) - This is tough. To me a pick'em between Jochum, Kilgore, and Brinker.
MVP:  Justice Spriggs (Hamline).  287 yards passing and 4 TD's to go along with 87 rushing yards against Carleton.  If he hadn't played big that game Hamline would be on the bottom of the conference standings.

Interesting thought. And with UST and SJU both top 5 in the country in defense, it makes sense. Andrew would probably be the best rep for the Tommies. Pietruzewski (sure i have butchered the spelling) or Brinker are logical picks for the Johnnies.

This had me curious. You have to go back to 2006 to find someone from the defensive side of the ball as MIAC MVP. Kirby Carr, an OLB from Bethel. He had a pretty nice stat line, on top of being a Gagliardi finalist: 68 tackles, 14.5 TFL, 5.5 sacks, 6 pass break-ups, a fumble recovery and three interceptions, two of which he returned for touchdowns

I've been harangued here on the boards for being verbose, so I'll keep this short.

I thoroughly enjoy the jocularity and camaraderie found here. Best on-line community I've ever been a part of, hands-down.

Although I cringe at times when some let their "witty-ness" get out of control.

Kiss and make up - or at least shake hands and move on.

Kind thoughts Art!

But, a cage match with no key over who gets the last word in is a possibility as well.

I'll give you +k instead. I wouldn't want a firm hand shake or a pat on the back to be misconstrued as dancing and get you in trouble with your alma mater.

Art - Just curious - any idea when that rule actually died?  My older sister was a 2000 grad, and it wasn't in place while she was at Bethel.

No idea. Both my boys graduated after your older sister and didn't have to deal with it either. Not sure where to dig up that kind of "historical (hysterical?)" data.
