Art - Just curious - any idea when that rule actually died?  My older sister was a 2000 grad, and it wasn't in place while she was at Bethel.

No idea. Both my boys graduated after your older sister and didn't have to deal with it either. Not sure where to dig up that kind of "historical (hysterical?)" data.

I was a 2008 grad - would I have overlapped with any Art Jr's?

Like sjusection105 said LINFIELD met Gagliardi's teams in 2002 in McMinnville and in Collegeville in 2003.                                  People met and laughed.
Wow - this photo brings back memories.. Great tailgaiting that day with Linfield fans.  Our daughter, Erin, was a freshman in high school and we had to leave the Linfield game early to get her to New Ulm for a hockey game. Since then, she played goalie in a state championship game (lost 2-1 to Blake), played 4 years @ St. Olaf (coached by John Bazzachini - SJU 81), got her doctorate in OT from Creighton and was married August 26.
I still have the sweatshirt... it's a bit ragged, but still comfortable!
I visited McMinnville a year ago on a work trip and made a pilgrimage to the CatDome and was very impressed.
I apologize for this stroll down memory lane.

Wow, you know it's playoff time when Mac77 crawls out of the woodwork!

Those days in Science Lot 2 were tons of fun!  Way back then, I was unmarried, childless, and could show up at 8:00 a.m. to sip on the Finsleft Kool-aid and shotgun beers with Ritz72!  That 2003 SJU/Linfield pregame was loads of fun--similar rabid fan bases coming together from across the country to have a great time.  We MIACers learned much about Post Pattern smack talk that season.  ;D

I took some time last evening and this evening to watch the UST vs. Linfield playoff game from 2015.  It is striking how much this Tommie team has changed from the 2015 to the 2017 season.  The biggest differences are defense, depth and personnel at the skilled positions.

Back then the primary backs were Roberts and Kaiser with a little bit of Waldvogel mixed in.  Compare that to the current Tommie team and the depth is striking.  Now it's Parks, Trettel, Wagner and Loeffler. At the beginning of the season I would have guessed that freshman Noel Ortiz or Nick Rich or Chase Harper would have been the first up as newcomer running backs, but didn't see Loeffler as the freshman contributor.

If we didn't have so much running back depth at the junior and sophomore level, there would be some record set with this batch of freshman backs, but they will get the chance to make their mark.

It's been a pissing match around here for the past few days and I certainly threw some fuel on the fire.  But I will say this, us Tommies endured a lot of negativity on here over the years and we just endured and proved that we have a strong and thick outer shell; not to mention emotionally well adjusted.  When dished out, we can take it, and we can also dish it out.  You Johnnies can dish is out, but seems you cannot take it when its being dished out.  It's time for you Johnnies to decide if you want to endure or go off and have Pat create your own forum.

Finally, I kind of like providing analysis of Tommie Football depth, and so next up, is the linebacker position.

Amen to that. The Engineers were the greatest posters ever. They Monkey Stomped us posting and we Monkey Stomped them on the field.  :)

And...we just hit a new low with our friends from Alliance on the OAC. I have now been brought back down to earth on what class and respect truly mean.

Yore kidding me, right?  After the bestiality, homosexuality, mental and physical disability, occupational, and socioeconomic slanders made here about SJU, you're going to try and draw a line in the PC sand over the word retard?  That's funny.

I've been known to play a little fast and loose with the banter on occasion. However, it's mostly lots of good-natured allusion and innuendo. When people have reached out and informed me that a comment might actually hurt someone, I've publicly apologized.

This is different. I can't recall anyone on this board actively relishing in their use of a slur.

Apparently, you can't spell "hypocrite" without using a "Reverend MIAC, PhD"

Okay, so show me where we've used slurs that malign the disadvantaged. The guy publicly apologized for using the term, so in my mind the whole thing is old news. Let's move forward. That being said, I don't think any Tommies are upset that he called us names. Heck, I welcome the name calling. I enjoy the banter. I don't enjoy people using that derogatory term or other commonly recognized slurs that should be relegated to the dustbin of history.

Just the other day I referred to St John's as SJCC or St John's Community College. It was unfair of me to lump the hardworking folks that attend community college in with the backwoods hicks that attend St John's. I apologize and will make amends by spending time teaching St John's alums how to read and use a computer.

Mea culpa, mea culpa, mea maxima culpa.

mac77... Great news about your daughter 14 yesterday later.
Just so we're straight, that is Purple Flag in the photo with you two. Not me. He may still lurk on the boards (his son Spirit of 86 does).
I was ticketed for the game and got the flu on Thursday.  I actually made (for me) an adult decision and ate the ticket to stay in bed and watch on computer.
You St. John's people will remember we used to have 30 or more posters on here smacking.
Have no idea where they faded off to.
We never had one interaction with a tom.
(Oh, how did Sam Riddle's back-up look in that tom manhandle? You did check Alex Hoff with all that weight up front at least)

In 2015, when Linfield came our way, I inquired if any of the Linfield contingent would be coming to St Paul, as I would have loved to host you for a beer or meet up for mimosas pre-game. *Crickets* I guess you were afraid the Johnnies would be jealous.

In reality, most of the St Thomas posters here are not in the Twin Cities area anymore. There are a few more now, but I haven't been on this board for that long, Bench just moved back, etc. We are still building up strength to compete with the Johnnie contingent. Once we do, we'll schedule a Rumble and take our angst out with an all-out brawl (or maybe a flag football game?)
