So Mount Union's quarterback is playing. I want to keep this conversation away from focussing on him. What do you think about the coaching staff's decision to play him? Beyond the bad optics, I can't help but feel their priorities are skewed.

This is 1 year removed from having started a receiver with an off-season drug conviction for them, so it shouldn't be a surprise. That same receiver, Hargrove, then went on a Harvy Weinstein rampage around the campus.

I THOUGHT D3 was different, but not in Alliance.
Caruso / Fasching facing same situation...what happens????

Congrats to NCC, they played well.
Erdman was bad-too many floaters.
The line on both sides got handled-need bigger guys.
Lots of missed holding-watching #11 on defense was interesting-after almost every play his jersey would be up around his shoulder pads and he would point out to the ref after a few of those-look at my jersey-being held.
Lots of room for improvement.

Holding does not get called in high school or college playoffs...just noting for a friend.

Just returned from UST game. Got to meet wm4 at Tiff's before the game, which was a pleasure to meet him and his family.

We played pretty crappy in the first half, looked better in the 2nd half. I'll have more later. Gotta drop off the babysitter and get some food for dinner.

Mr.MIAC

Thanks for keeping things interesting, Johnnies. The Tommie-Johnnie game was one for the record books. Better luck next year.

NCC looked tough.  That was not a pretty game.  I'm not blaming the weather, but I wish it would have been better so that Rutter and Erdmann could have opened it up.

Something has to change with the offense.  They struggled to sustain drives all season.  There's loads of talent.  Hmmmm.

Oh well, good job, Johnnies.  As always, the seniors will be missed, but everyone is replaceable.

Congrats to the Tom-kitties on their 1st round win.

A tradition unrivaled...

A couple of other notes from the UST game:
Trettel did not play today. Was not dressed. Hopefully just precautionary and he'll be back next week. Parks had a nice game, Loeffler a highlight reel-worthy run and a nice return, and Molina and Wagner had some nice runs. A lot of kinks to work out. Perra's timing was off and he overthrew on a number of passes. Defense was dominating as usual. The game got a little chippy towards the end and Eureka had several personal fouls.

That's horrible. Just horrible.

In this case, it's the team leader facing a felony charge. I can understand giving the kid the benefit of the doubt and showing support for him during what must be a difficult period, but we're talking a felony charge. I'm pretty sure everyone in the Mount Union community has heard about these developments. It must be sort of an odd atmosphere in stadium. If you're a parent in the stands, do you encourage your kids to cheer for him? The coaches must understand the message this sends.

Thanks for bringing up this issue Rev.  No way most schools (including SJU or NCC) allows this kid to play until things are resolved, especially with a felony battery charge pending.  Lost a bit more respect for Mount Union today.

Respect to the Johnnie faithful that came to Naperville today.  Would have loved to see these teams play on a dry field without wind gusting up to 35 mph.  Perhaps a home and away out of conference matchup... would be great for both programs and conferences.  Would like to visit Collegeville, but not in November.  :)

FORMER player is the key word here.

This exact article I copied notes a drug conviction prior to him playing the 2016 season. So NO, not former regarding what I noted above. Also, his Weinstein rampage on young Mount Union freshman and Sophomore females occurred during his playing days.

SJU Seniors, thanks for the memories. The loss to NCC is still fresh, so give it some time & then look back on your career with fondness.
Go Johnnies!
As of now they're on DOUBLE SECRET Probation!

Boys of Fall

They were three points apart in the regular season, boys of fall, but one is facing the CCIW champ on the road and the other has the UMAC champ at home. Of course the predictions will reflect that.
I stand corrected.

Fasching - has to be on the hot seat, right? He's performed well, but the SJU standards of excellence (#1) are so high. Seat has to be heating up - after a 5 year run of mixed results. And a team going froward that needs rebuilding.

He is 3-4 in the playoffs, with 4 uncompetitive outs:
2017: 7 - 17 to NCC
2016: 14 - 31 to Oshkosh
2015: 19-38 to UST
2014: 10-21 to Wartburg
2013: no playoff apperance

3 wins have come against nobodies: Scholastica, Dubuque, Platteville.

After 5 years under Fashing, are the Johnnies any further back to being relevant? Sure, some nostalgic hope in the national rankings during the regular season. But 4 unimpressive outs in a row, the nostalgia is fading quickly.

It has been 10 years since SJU made a run in the playoffs (2006 run w/ 14-17 loss to WW).

In a word.....No!
This is complicated and the Benedictine tradition plays a major role. This is not a simple W-L equation. This is also not a D1 Power 5 scenario. That being said, there are factions (that donate a lot of $$) on both sides of the question. Developing.....
As of now they're on DOUBLE SECRET Probation!
