Waking up this morning in the western exurbs (45 miles west) of Minneapolis and the thermometer reads -16F .

That my friends is cold enough to freeze the nuts off a John Deere plow!  :o

Windchill factor -36F  :o :o

I will be out & about for a little while. Dress properly and limit the amount of exposed skin (nose can get frost bitten if left exposed).
My brother is heading out to his fish house, 16" ice thickness on area lakes makes for good stable ice. The fish house is double insulated, sleeps 6 and has 2 TVs, you can't expect to fish all day without watching Bowl Game, right....?  ;D

Brutal cold.  I walked the dog about 7:00.  You know it's cold when your eyelashes instantly freeze.

A tradition unrivaled...

Terrible creatures mostly found in Minnesota and especially Wisconsin. Copious amounts of brandy are the only known remedy :)

Happy New Years, all.  I wish you well in 2018.  For all of you freezing your butt cheeks off make sure to stay warm. A guy needs cheeks to sit on in the summer.

From the Australia is a very small place file: a woman at the party the Mrs and I are at said that AC/DC played at one of her high school dances back in the day. It's been a while since AC/DC played a high school dance I imagine (something a few of us aging types are all too well aware of) but apparently they had already released TNT so had quite a few a few future international hits already on their playlist (I tried my best to narrow the dates without being too impolite.  She makes her money doing spots on the TV morning shows so age is a well-guarded secret). Regardless to say, jealous as hell.  Best high school dance ever.

Too bad the Packer/Lion game isn't in Green Bay today. That would have been a hoot.

I believe the BIG is 7-0 in Bowl games this year, with one more to go. Who'd a thunk it?

Don't eat yellow snow? Here in Ohio we have your traditional white snow. Comes right down from the sky. Perhaps you are getting the effects of a temperature inversion, resulting from a cold front passing a low, or high, pressure area. That, in combination with cumulo nimbus clouds passing over an area of higher elevation could..............
Oh. That yellow snow. Never mind what I said above.
Anyway,     An nou fericit.     Romanian for Happy New Year.
Adios.     Mexican for goodbye.

Thanks for the info on snow snakes. Around here we mostly have to deal with stink bugs. Swat one and pour another Bud Light. You guys have all the fun!

Question for you. I know that while we are having winter, you are in summer. So, since we will be celebrating new year's, I guess you will be celebrating July 4th. Right? I know what you're thinking. Boy, is this guy dumb. It's OK, I know it's not a holiday down there so no big deal. Just another day!
I hope your didgeridoo does. (Again, pathetic)

The worst part is since it's summer here we don't celebrate Christmas on Dec 25th. We need to wait until it's winter in July.
Do you celebrate with Vegemite, Marmite or Promite. :)

My folks used to host foreign exchange students when I was a kid. Had 2 from Australia (both from the Perth area) and both came well stocked with Vegemite. I remember pranking a friend and putting a bunch in a bowl and said it was pudding (I was 9) - still laugh when I think of the look on his face as he was spitting it out and scrapping his tongue. Good times.

Enjoy the cold folks. I miss it. I was at Ft. McCoy in December of 04 before my unit rotated over to the Middle East (cause training in Wisconsin in the Winter is just like the Middle East  ???). Our rater lost our weapons qualifications and we were set to fly on the 27th. We had to go to the range on the 23rd and it was -17, windchill of like -29 and blowing uprange into our faces, and I had to qualify with 3 weapons. I was never so happy with a Marksman rating (my first ever) so I could get off the range. Had a guy that chewed and he didn't realize he was drooling until his face got frozen to the butt of the weapon. Funny as heck. Good times. I miss Wisconsin in the winter.
