SJU LEADS NCAA DIVISION III FOOTBALL IN ON-CAMPUS ATTENDANCE FOR 21ST TIME, 16TH IN LAST 17 SEASONS

:D :D :D  They even created their own tables to make it look like the ones the NCAA publishes.

Wow, maybe attendance is more important to SJ2, making up their own stat categories now. If they had the guts to leave their campus for a date with UST my guess is that they could easily get the word out to their faithful and reclaim the record. But it appears they are just happy to be 3rd for single game home attendance in D3 (behind UST and UWW). No guts no glory.

Ha!  So now we call the craven, profit-driven exploitation of d3's best travelling fan base courageous?  That's funny. If only other schools had the guts to chase the dollar over legacy.

That one might keep me chuckling all morning.

(I did get a smile when looking at the NCAA stats and saw the asterisk next to UST's numbers with the note at the bottom of the page reading "Only possible due to the strength of the SJU fan base.")

Just for the record -- the NCAA hasn't issued its annual attendance release yet.

Ok.  So I'll have a chuckle again tomorrow.  Or the next day.

"Craven, profit driven, exploitation of those poor underprivileged Johnnie fans" is this Al Gore or OzJohnnie? I admit UST got the record with about 60-65% Johnnie fans but, you have to also chuckle about the irony of the whole situation. I mean SJU has always taken a great deal of pride in those attendance statistics and now St. Glenn has somewhat forced their hand to take it off campus as well, if they want to get the single game record back again (which I know SJU could easily do if they promoted it to their base to break UST's record) Anyway, great banter. I believe this Second Stringer is learning how to troll.

Believe me when I tell you this has been discussed already. October 13,2018 the Gophers plays at Ohio State. If it actually gets legs or not, it has been discussed by some who believe they have some influence on the program.

Seriously this would get old, playing every Johnnie -Tommie game at an alternate sight. ::)

As of now they're on DOUBLE SECRET Probation!

Al Gore!  Ha!

I doubt we will stress overly much on the home game record.  SJU brings staying power and that's pretty darned good, I recon.  Plus, UST can always come up with another gimmick to exploit the Johnnie fan base.  Free car polish with every ticket, for example.  Or maybe a year's supply of Moisterizer No 7 for a lucky manscaper.

Interesting question in Deadspin's "Funbag."

If Alabama's offensive line was put on an average D3 team's roster, do they win the D3 title? Drew Magary says yes.

Out of the 242 or so D3 teams, I don't know who the 121st best team is, (Gustavus?) HansenRatings probably knows. But it was an interesting question.

Let's say, hypothetically, it is the Gusties. They'd certainly be able to slow down the game and control the clock, and probably make the quarterfinals pretty easily. But then they'd run into some teams that could shut down their skill positions for 4+ seconds and would be fast enough to at least get SOME penetration or at least slow the running game. If I had a billion dollars I would make a Mt. Union versus Gustavus with Alabama's offensive line game happen.

I did see that thanks! His knee must not bother him too much.

After losing a stud like Webster the Auggies are looking good this year.

Auggies are ranked #1 after the National Dual Championship

Yeah I'd say anybody in the top 15 or so is going to be able to put up 50 on a 120th ranked defense.  Tough to get to 50 with a mediocre QB.

Only if you loan the Gusties Alabama's Offensive and Defensive coaches.

To me the D1 equivalent for this that's already in place is playing a very good Navy team.  They generally own the time of possession, aim to rush for 300 yards, and keep the scoring low.  That's in theory what the Alabama line would allow the Gusties to do. Here's a representative box score for Navy this year

http://tulsahurricane.com/boxscore.aspx?path=football&id=8260

The key I think is, will the Alabama/Gustie team even need to pass?  If they can grind out 4 yards per play on the ground, they'll just go up and down the field, chew clock and score.  In a slowed down game, figure they'd get the ball 8-10 times at least, so let's say they'd score in some form on 6-7 of those possessions, so you're looking at 40+ points on the board for Bama/Gustie.  The Mt Union offense would have to be near perfect, to put 40+ on the board, but it can be done.

Here's where I think it would shift.  Any good D coordinator with Mt Union's athletes would load the line of scrimmage with more rushers than blockers...even overload the line in this hypothetical.    Bring the house on 1st down and get a stop on the run and and now it's second and long and you make the Gustie QB try to beat you.

Mt Union 52
Bama/Gustie 28
