Re: Gophers v MUCabama

It comes down to defensive backfields, I reckon.  Would MUC linebackers be able to stop Gopher short passes and how would the dbacks do against the occasional long bomb?  The Gophers would not even need to try running, really, and could play around the Bama line all day.

Same on other side of the ball. If the Gopher dbacks could shut down the MUC passing game then the Gopher linebackers could blitz every play and overwhelm the Bama linemen.  The box could be jammed up every play leaving the MUCabama Purple Tide with few options.

Having watched both UMU and UMinn games, I'm not 100% convinced that even without Bama additions, UMU just might not win! :o ;D

How about this one, Ditka vs. the Johnnies? I'd have to go with Ditka on this one.  :o

Mini Ditka or regular-sized Ditka?

I said Johnnies, not Tommies, so Mini-Ditka of course  ;D

Another FB gem:

Ole and Sven die in a snowmobiling accident, drunker than skunks, And go to Hell. The Devil observes that they are really enjoying themselves. He says to them 'Doesn't the heat and smoke bother you?' Ole replies, 'Vell, ya know, ve're from nordern Minnesooota, da land of snow an ice, an ve're yust happy fer a chance ta varm up a little bit, ya know.'

The devil decides that these two aren't miserable enough and turns up the heat even more. When he returns to the room of the two from Minnesota , the devil finds them in light jackets and hats, grilling Walleye and drinking beer. The devil is astonished and exclaims, 'Everyone down here is in misery, and you two seem to be enjoying yourselves?' Sven replies, 'Vell, ya know, ve don't git too much varm veather up dere at da Falls, so ve've yust got ta haff a fish fry vhen da veather's dis nice.'

The devil is absolutely furious. He can hardly see straight. Finally he comes up with the answer. The two guys love the heat because they have been cold all their lives. The devil decides to turn all the heat off in Hell. The next morning, the temperature is 60 below zero, icicles are hanging everywhere, and people are shivering so bad that they are unable to wail, moan or gnash their teeth. The devil smiles and heads for the room with Ole and Sven. He gets there and finds them back in their parkas, bomber hats, and mittens. They are jumping up and down, cheering, yelling and screaming like mad men.

The devil is dumbfounded, 'I don't understand, when I turn up the heat you're happy. Now its freezing cold and you're still happy. What is wrong with you two?'

They both look at the devil in surprise and say, 'Vell, don't ya know, if hell iss froze over, dat must mean da Vikings von da Super Bowl.

I jumped over the the UMAC Board to see the reaction to Ramler's resignation, but there has not been a post since Halloween. Other than AO,does anyone on the UMAC Board know who Kurt Ramler is...... ???
As of now they're on DOUBLE SECRET Probation!

I wonder if he put his name in for the W&L job. A guy that coached at Carleton would get the admissions problem. The ODAC is probably a few steps up from the UMAC in quality of competition. He has a better chance of playing in the tournament staying in the UMAC, but an ODAC team hasn't lost 98-0 to anyone in a really long time.

That's such an interesting picture -- Ramler at W&L.

One thing is for sure: He would want to change the offense.

Yes. Which wouldn't make me happy. But you don't dismiss a guy who played and coached under a legend, coached at a high academic school, and had success running his own program, quickly or easily. Those qualifications aren't just run of the mill resume fodder.

Unless he's already got the job, why would he already quit at Scholastica? He has to have something lined up (or else wants to get out of coaching entirely and go sell insurance or cars  for better money and life balance or something).

Completely true. And as far as I know, W&L is still "in process". But it was just a thought when I saw he left. Plus it had me thinking about what I would do if I was hiring a coach.

Kind of like teams and drafting, do you go the guy that is best available on the board, or the best available guy that fits a need? For W&L, Ramler seems like he would fit into the former category. That kind of resume is hard to come by. But he doesn't fit what has made W&L so successful over the last decade plus. So do you take a flier on a guy that has all the credentials but would probably need to remake an entire side of the ball in his image, or do you look for a coach that maybe doesn't look as good on paper, lacking DIII head coaching experience or experience at a high academic level school, but would be the best guy to continue what has made you successful, in this case a varied option offense.

I honestly don't know which way I'd go on that and thinking about Ramler was a good concrete example to ponder. Plus the ODAC board is pretty darn quiet so a topic in a different place was a good straw to grasp at!

My recent off season prediction of wrestler Lance Benick transferring to Augsburg from ASU worked out so I am going to double down and predict that Ramler will be named the Assistant Head Coach/OC at Augsburg sometime soon. Replacing Privette.
