I have some Super Bowl comments:

On the negative:
1) Yes it's cold up north in January/early February. It's called seasons! My best friend from college married a gal from Georgia. She loves living here and says "the cold weather keeps the riff raff out."
2) It could be 45 degrees all week and the media would still talk about how cold it is here.
3) In the 1992 SuperBowl weekend the weather gal on channel 9 said "it never is this warm in Minnesota this time of year!"  as she says the high on Sunday will be 23 degrees and then a chart shows the average high on that date is 23 degrees.

On the positive:

1) Minny has shown how to do it, all around.
2) Cold as hell, everyone turns out in huge numbers for everything.
3) Randy Moss gets in the HOF.
4) The guy who did a backward flip on a snowmobile in downtown MPLS. Outrageous!

Other thoughts:

Really wish Prince was around to do the halftime show. Rumor is a hologram will have him present.
Someone asked Eric Clapton "what it was like to be the best guitarist in the world." He replied, "I don't know. You'll have to ask Prince." Yes folks, Prince was that talented..

Good on you Minnesota. Nobody has done a Super Bowl better. And people from somewhere else, if you can't stand a little winter, then stay home. Dale Earnhardt Jr. said he can't wait to get home and with his wife to book a Minnesota winter vacation he's had so much fun. That's my kind of guy.

Thanks BDB,  So is this kid as good as he looks in his highlight video? Your opinion?

Hard to say. He didn't play much until last year. MHS had 2 really good receivers (Concordia-St. Paul) (UMD) the grade ahead of him and 2 really good QB's (Iowa) (Winona State) throwing to them. This year with all of those guys gone they ran the ball a lot. He is tall, and a good kid from what I know of him.

So that makes 4 MHS seniors heading to UST. One thing about these players is they are used to winning and have been coached really well.

SUMMIT!!!!!

So you're saying they are prepared well for UST  :)

Hey Oz, do people down under give a rip about the Super Bowl?

Only as a reason to skip work for a day and drink beer at 10am.  Usually Americans will ring-lead, either orgniizing a room at a pub or hosting something at their house.  Games are primarily on a Monday morning so it really only has a cult following.

I haven't watched the Super Bowl in a long time.  10 years maybe.  When the Colts won and Nick Thielman was living in Melbourne.

I'm actually sitting in a conference in Singapore right now.  In the cab on the way to the venue the Pats scored a TD to make it 12-15.  They hadn't kicked the FG yet so I don't  know what the score is now.

Oz,
41-33 Eagles. More passes back to QB than punts. Combined 4 missed PAT attempts. Vegas had to be reeling with all the odd goings on.

Meh. I wasn't vested in any team. I've disliked the Eagles for a long time so I guess I was going for the Pats by default. The only Penn team I've ever liked is the Pirates.  The Sister Sledge We Are Family World Series campaign in 78 or 79 has stuck in my childhood memeory.  And "have a Coke, Mean Joe."  He's the only Steeler I've ever liked.

So, Philly is having a riot because they won the Super Bowl. I'm guessing they would have done the same if the Eagles had lost.

But the guy that stole the ostrich from the city zoo and was riding it through traffic is a new one. The video is on the interweb.

I read the ostrich died when electrocuted from down power lines.

It truly is one of the most ludicrous professional fan bases in sports. Having grown up in Central NJ in the 80s and 90s Veteran's Stadium was a truly unpleasant place to watch any kind of sporting event. The fans were just a disaster. And it's never gone away. We are a whole generation past those clowns and they still act like idiots whenever they win something. The only other fan base I've ever been this close to, that acted this bad, was West Virginia. Mountaineer fans just can't seem to stop themselves from rioting for even minor wins.

All that being said, I'm happy when Bill Belicheck loses. It's always hard to tell when he's upset and happy, since he never fails to look like one of the most miserable and slovenly human beings on the planet, but seeing him on his knees at the end of the game last night brought a smile to my face. Between him and Nick Saban, there is almost never a time I don't want their gruff, arrogant, dismissive personalities taken down about a dozen pegs. It's just sad they are both so good at what they do.

Welter is from my neck of the woods.  Speaking to UST coaches over the weekend, they're excited about this kid.

Some who are on twitter might have noticed that Paul Pabst was "repping" the MIAC each day last week, wearing sweatshirts from each MIAC school. Today is Augsburg's turn.

The JM kid looks like a tough hard nosed player (although, small) probably a SS or WLB/ Rush-end edge player type. The Southern Minny is a pretty good 5A conference as well. The kid from IL, Welter looks pretty athletic for a 6-3 kid. Not sure about the level of play. It looks comparable to about 3A in Minnesota? WM4 what's the Football like in Plainfield South's conference?
