I actually didn't -- it just seemed like a logical pairing considering what was available.

The year is young but I have to believe Faunchy you are in the lead for quote of the year thus far! That's a classic! Just an FYI, I am told by a local millennial that SJ2 has at least as many "Twitter Commits" if not more than UST. They just are not finding their way to this board. Personally, I would love to see how the John's class is shaping up or any other MIAC school for all that matters, particularly where the Minnesota kids are going.

Yes, but unfortunately Mr. Rajkowski is long gone from the SC Times, so there's no longer any news from Johnnieville.  Maybe Mr. Deland could send a "special" from inside the catacombs???

Hey MRF, we have almost identical posting stats, cool. Anyway, yeah it's too bad, Frank was a wealth of SJ2 sports info. I don't know how Mr. Tom Thumb gets his info on recruits (hopefully, it's all true, otherwise he's really good at yanking our chain) Maybe you could do a twitter search of say #gojohnnies or #sjufootball?
My bet is that he's on the coaching staff or works in the athletic department. At a minimum he's got a direct line of communication from somebody on the staff.  I'm also thinking he might be the same guy running the MIAC Football Recruiting page on Twitter.

If memory serves correctly I believe Mr Tom Thumb is an officer of the law. My memory  could be failing me though.

Yes, you are correct. I have no connection to anyone on the UST coaching staff nor do I run the MIAC Football Recruiting page. I'm just a guy who used to play football for UST who now lives in Las Vegas.

Well, we won't hold that against you (the Vegas part). Keep the updates coming. They are appreciated! Hope you are enjoying some warm weather in sin city.

Looks to me like anybody you get from Loyola will be money somewhere down the line. McMahon with his big frame is no exception. The Caledonia kid (Robley) is wart hog. My guess is he's a wrestler. He squats 585 and cleans 300! He's clearly undersized but we can't see his heart?

THIS WEEK'S TOPIC: Non-Conference Schedules

Now that most of the schedules are out, There seems to be nothing to write home about. Using the D3.Com rankings, wouldn't it be awesome to see any combo of the top 5 or 6 teams schedule each other? Certainly between UST, UWO, and Mount it would be feasible for bus travel. Now throw in, SJ2, UWW, Wartburg and North Central into the mix there could be some great games. Kudos to UMHB and Linfield for doing this for several years. They treated their fans to a literal D3 showcase. I believe the reason this rarely happens is that the stakes are to high if you your goal is to win the Stagg Bowl. When you get down to the national quarterfinals and semifinals home field is big advantage. One loss and you can practically forget about hosting a quarterfinal let alone a national semifinal. That being said, I believe we would get much more exciting non-conference scheduling if the NCAA went to neutral sites for at least the national semifinals if not the quarterfinals as well. At least make both teams travel. The site could be selected within busing distance of the higher seed. If possible an approximate midway point between the two if both teams could bus to it. Potentially this wouldn't cost the NCAA much if any more. Thoughts?

If your team is in the playoffs, being at home makes a big difference in game "feel" having that 12th man on the field, as it were, IMHO. Yeah, it is a big gamble. From afar, it isn't/wasn't as big a gamble for Linfield and UMHB, as they have almost always hosted in the lower rounds. Where there are more concentrations of good teams around the country, return on investment seems to be smaller and the risks higher to not be at home for a round or two by losing a game. I'm sure others will chime in on this.

Completely agree that better scheduling would be great for the game, but there's just zero incentive for teams to schedule like this.  Best path to the playoffs is to win your conference and not risk an OOC loss to fall into the Pool C group.  It's frustrating for sure, as a fan.  Instead, we have to wait essentially until early December to see actual games on the field answer questions that have been brewing for months.

Here's a picture from the local paper about the MHS kids heading to play college football. All except the Wisconsin recruit that did the early signing day.

The 4 UST guys on the right side and an Augsburg guy (second from left) to boot.
