Today we take on the convicted PED doping program at Essendon. Essendon is a fierce rivalry never more fierce than the 2004 "Line in the Sand" match when Hawthorn, led by tough-as-nails Captain Richie Vandenberg, stood up with fists flying to over a decade of Essendon bullying on the pitch.  That match marks a stark divergence in the clubs' fortunes as Hawthorn went on to win four premierships and played in countless playoff games while Essendon has made the post season once, lost its only post season game, saw the whole playing group suspended for two years for doping and just three days ago had the head coach who led them during the doping penalties arrested for running a meth distribution network.

Essendon's (often referred to as Essendrug) culture has been ugly and broken for quite a while and it's only getting worse. I hope the Hawks slaughter them today.

And for the legacy minded, the fight highlights of the Line in the Sand game.

The Hawks beat the Dopers 90 - 67 in a boring, uninspired game. The Hawks only showed up for one quarter and the Bombers didn't show up at all.  Next Friday night, though, will be a big game at MCG against the Sydney Swans.  It's a game that will have a big impact on how these two teams finish in the standings and should be hard and fast at the ball all night.

No recruits for U$T this year.

Ha! Me thinks they did extremely well! However, so did SJ2. It seems another year of the rich getting richer!

On a side note to all SJ2 faithful, I had mentioned one of your many stalwarts a number of posts back, Cam McCambridge. In case any of you were curious as to what he is up to these days, while on a bike ride yesterday along the river road in St. Paul, I spotted an Edina Realty sign with his name on several listings (very pricey river lots) I would say he is to doing alright in the real estate world or at least beginning to. Good to see.

Aussie Nathan Walker, pressed into service due to injuries, gets a primary assist in his first NHL Stanley Cup Playoff game. Another first for him.

Dear MUC57,

A poem for you to decipher:

retagent's squad slay the defending beast,
but to the west, charging knights await,
or fighting jets swarm the predator's song,
which will it be, lighting that strikes,
or speak in all caps?,
towards a sweet drink from the cup,
or will retagent be looking for
a better goal reached?

There you go MUC57. As a fellow poet I know you can see deep within this prose.

Your buddy, Shakespeare  BDB

My poetry was strictly the old coffee house variety. It works while drinking coffee in rooms full of the sweet smell of grass and I don't mean like bent or Bermuda. Throwback to days in D.C. And San Francisco. Were those the good old days we remember or hear about? Ah, well. Excuse me while I take a stroll down memory lane.

Your stuff is the insightful, deep, romantic written music that dreams are made of!
I don't know what that means. But thanks BDB - I think. ☠🏈😀

Don't forget, I'm old. I get mixed up and I forget things!

This clandestine photo of MUC57 was captured at a Grateful Dead revival.  Totally buzzing, bro.

Of course that was taken when I was much younger. That stuff sure does things to you. The gal however; was a real fox. OK, when she was younger.

But all seriousness aside, your post had me laughing so hard my neighbors thought this was it. They came running over to help. That gets my vote as the most hilarious post on these boards - EVER!
You're a master, OzJohnnie. I really did laugh hysterically.
A big (actually there is only one size) +k to you. May all your boomerangs return!

No worries. Maybe you should change your nickname to 57Blends. And I ain’t talking coffee, if you know what I mean. :o

(Actually, don’t. I’m just chuckling to myself thinking of you as an 85-year-old pot-smoking hippie driving in a flower-covered VW van trailing smoke like Cheech and Chong while blasting The Mamas & The Papas.)

Hey, big guy! I'm only 82. 85? Ya hurt me. Of course, at this advanced age, what the hell's a few years one way or the other!
Wait! Maybe you were projecting a few years ahead. Was all this really worth talking about?
I do get mixed up.
I'll just say, "g'day mate! (Was that kind of authentic?). ☠🏈😀

Dear MUC57,

Since it's been established that there is some leftover resin on the melon, let me translate this for you:

retagent's squad slay the defending beast,
but to the west, charging knights await,
or fighting jets swarm the predator's song,
which will it be, lighting that strikes,
or speak in all caps?,
towards a sweet drink from the cup,
or will retagent be looking for
a better goal reached?

So, retagent is a regular poster and a huge Washinton Capitals fan. We are talking NHL Playoffs here. The nemesis of the "Caps" has been the 2 time Stanley Cup Champion Pittsburgh Penguins, who have knocked the Caps out of the playoffs in the past in heartbreak fashion. But not this year, the Caps beat the Penguins in the second round.

The Caps now go on to the Eastern Conference Finals to face the Tampa Bay Lightning.

In the West, the Winnipeg Jets and Nashville Predators have yet to decide who moves forward to play the Las Vegas Golden Knights in the Conference Finals.

Who will win Lord Stanley's Cup? In the past on here I have made my dead on predictions. This year the race is too close to call so I haven't. But here goes: I do believe the champions will once again come from the East, either the Lightning or Capitals.

retagent, I think the difference in game 7 of this series is how well Holtby is playing. I'm picking the Caps in a game 7 overtime win.

So, there you have it MUC57. If you want to watch some seriously intense action, stop your channel search on one of these games for 5 minutes.

The skull and cross bones represent the stickers Mount Union puts on their helmet. Watch the Stagg Bowl video and you'll see lots of them on the helmets. Nice you noticed. Can't put them on this computer.

At home now, so for you OldAuggie - ☠☠☠☠☠☠☠☠☠☠☠☠☠ (1 for each national championship)

I'm familiar with retagent's posts. The other stuff got me. But thanks anyway.
When you say "leftover resin on the melon", what exactly .......... Oh! Never mind.
