So, there you have it MUC57. If you want to watch some seriously intense action, stop your channel search on one of these games for 5 minutes.

I'm not a hockey guy and watch very little of it normally.  I own a Minnesota Wild shirt but mostly because I liked the color of it.   But for some reason I get interested in it during the Stanley Cup playoffs and actually watch quite a bit by my standards.  There's something about the physicality and speed of the game that holds my attention.

I'm also not a hockey fan. However; I have been following Mount Union lacrosse, mostly the ladies. Finished the regular season as OAC champs, won the conference tournament ending with a record of 17-0, only undefeated team in Dlll. Play Sunday in the NCAA tournament.
If you like speed, try lacrosse. If you like speed and physicality, watch men's lacrosse. Lacrosse combines hockey, soccer and several other sports. Good stuff to watch. Kinda like rugby with sticks.
Good chatting with you. Go Warhawks, Go Raiders. In fact, Go Everyone! ☠🏈😀
I'm old! I get mixed up and I forget things! Go Everybody! 🏈 ☠

That’s the best part of hockey, I reckon. It’s what makes the game the best primal competition in the world and are the same characteristics that draw me to Aussie Rules.  Old time hockey is more fierce than old time footy.  Footy is a good runner up, though.

I guess you could argue that martial arts are more primal but the team aspect of hockey (and Aussie Rules for that matter) raise them above as a spectacle in my estimation.

Actually, this could make an interesting discussion: What draws you to watch the D3 gridiron, or any other sport?

I love Johnnie football because of the atmosphere.  Game day in Collegeville is spectacular.  It was a real privilege to have spent a few years there absorbing the vibe and the addiction lives on almost 30 years later.  As to the game football, I much prefer to play it over watching it. But you can't beat the spectacular big play for excitement. It's a great game to be hyped about.

There's a different feel to this year's Capitals. They seem tougher mentally. Most "experts" picked them to be a bubble team, maybe just making the playoffs. They worked, rather than breezed through the season. Game 6 vs Pitt was a prime example. They were without three of their Top 6 forwards, had 5 rookies playing in that game, and still won, in a manner that was very different from the past couple years. And, yes, Holtby, after a month or so of some less than Vezina worth play has found his game again.

I'm hoping for a Vegas/Capitals Final The story lines would be pretty good. Ex-Cap GM George McFee, now GM for the Knights. St Cloud's own Nate Schmidt, a VERY popular Cap player, who was relegated to 7th Defenseman last playoffs, gets picked up by Vegas, and becomes their ice time leader. The Cap fans are still upset about him being exposed in the expansion.

Although the Preds would also provide some good stories, Trotz was their long time coach, and One of their stars, Filip Forsberg, was dealt as a prospect for Marty Erat, who was supposed to get the Caps over the hump a couple years back, and did exactly squadush!.

Anyhow, got to get by the Bolts first, and that will be no easy task.

Yes, you are able to brag about those 13 National Titles with your fantastic football program!

Must agree with you Oz on game day in Collegeville (despite being a Tommie Fan). Can't believe there is any place better in D3, certainly not the MIAC. And it's not because SJ2 draws so well, it's the Natural Bowl's atmosphere. It's the pine curtain, it's the hill, even the Spectrum which encloses/ties it all in. The smoke and smells from the grills stay and circulate in the bowl perfectly. Playing the Johnnie radio pregame show over the PA prior to the game is nice finishing touch. Tailgating in the lots anywhere is second to none (UST really needs to fix their tailgating situation!) During the game the bowl really amplifies the crowd noise which completes the big time feel!

D3 football and the MIAC in particular, IMO, is one of the best values in sports these days. It is very good football for under $10 a seat and you are right on top of the action. There is no better $$ value in entertainment IMO.

Great post. The picture says it all. Congrats! Quite an accomplishment! ☠🏈
I don't usually talk about our championships, it kind of fit based on the discussion.

As some have already replied, no better bang for the buck. And most of us here on this board are "connected" to the programs we root for - whether we are an alumnus or have players on the field we are connected to, or both. There is the reminiscing as the past years start to blur together and the wonder of the "glory days" as they meld together. There are bonds that cannot be broken until we pass into eternity.

That's why I follow D3 Football.

It's a huge game against the Sydney Swans tonight at the MCG.  The game has big implications on the season despite just being 1/3 of the way through the year, the winner destined for post season glory and the loser in a struggle to make the playoffs.

It will be cold, wet and miserable as we've had thunderstorms for two days with more to come right up until game time.  There's a pressure cell pushing icy air straight up from the Antarctic so it won't be a thrill.  But I'll be there all the same (maybe inside a bar looking out over the grounds - gotta use the advantages of my Melbourne Cricket Club membership.  I was 18 years on the waiting list so there ain't no guilty feelings here).

I follow D3 football because I played in the MIAC and graduated from Augsburg so it's kind of natural for me to do so but truthfully speaking I probably would not follow without the same experience. I also follow Auggie Wrestling and Hockey and all 3 have the same feeling of good value and convenience. I like the Game Day experience without huge lines and huge prices for a hot dog, parking is easy most of the time and overall it is a competitive atmosphere, especially at the Battle of the Burg's which is D3 wrestling's version of Tommie-Johnnie. Sure tickets are cheap so that helps. I also follow Gopher football with equal interest but nothing is cheap or easy there. D3 and D1 are different and I like that.

Sigh. The Hawks went down 79-71. Sydney played a fierce, desperate game while we were frustratingly casual and indecisive.  Hawthorn could have easily won this game by 30 points had they played with greater intent and urgency.

Oh, well. The squad will do well but won't run deep into the playoffs. They lack the desperate intensity needed at that time of year. They have great skill and play with a very disciplined and effective structure which makes them competitive against any side. But they just lack the animal desperation this season. Perhaps it will show up but it is looking a little underdone at the moment.

Is anyone else an Amazon Prime member? The whole Amazon empire is a different discussion for a different day, it has pros & cons.

I get a lot of music & movies from Amazon Prime. This morning I told Alexa to play the "Hemingway's Whiskey" album from Kenny Chesney.

I forgot that this song was even on this album. "The Boys of Fall"  https://youtu.be/GEc1m-r_0gM
There are a lot of great clips on this version. If you look close, you see a young Kenny Chesney on either a Parent's Night or Sr. Night at his high school.

The song was written by Casey Bethard and Dave Turnbull.  Beathard is the son of former NFL GM Bobby Bethard & father of NFL QB C.J. Bethard.

Here is the back story of the song:  http://theboot.com/kenny-chesney-boys-of-fall-lyrics/
As of now they're on DOUBLE SECRET Probation!

Got to have a beverage with Faunch and the lovely Mrs. Faunch on Saturday evening at O'Gara's in St. Paul. It was Prom night for Cretin-Derham Hall and there was a gathering of Senior parents. A good evening of World problem solving! I did get to update Faunchy (He was very excited about this) on the UST spring game which I attended. The defense appeared to have picked up where it left off last year. Blake Weber with a pick, Adam Brant with several tackles, Sam Herringes look more than adequate in replacing the All-American Steve Harrell. D-line looked like the steel curtain. Offensively, Josh Parks took the first play from scrimmage 75yds for TD (vs. 2nd D) Parks appears to have been hitting the weights pretty hard as he looks alot bigger and stronger than last season. Perra looked very good (other than the Blake Weber pick which was a great play on Weber's part) Trettel was on the sidelines in workout clothes (as was Mark Dowdle), which I believe is a good sign given Tucker's injury from last year. Highlight was a Carter Schmitz 51yd FG with plenty of distance to spare. Attendance was decent I believe for a D3 spring game, I would estimate it at 1000 give or take.
