A (hopefully) giant snoozer in Brisbane today.  The only point of note is that Hawthorn legend and Captain Courageous Luke Hodge was coaxed out of retirement by the Lions, ala Brett Favre, and this is the first time he opposes his old side.

Glad to see you are back to your old self, having made it thru the wedding. 🇦🇺🏉

The Mrs has one of her sisters (and her family) and the mother and father over for dinner and an evening of watching the royal wedding.

Shoot. Me. Now.

(I’m trying to console myself by noting that the entire empire is celebrating the institutions of marriage and the House of Windsor, but it’s a pretty damned small consolation, I must say.)
Out of curiosity, what was the reaction among your wife and her family? My better half got up at 5:00 AM so she could watch all the advance hoopla and the ceremony (leaving me to sleep, thankfully). She really enjoyed all of it and thought the wedding itself was very moving, but of course she is an American so her perspective may have been different. What say Mrs. Oz and clan?

I'll just say that Australia has a very dry sense of humor.  The sermon is getting some rough treatment.  People are noting that the Queen seem quite pleased with everything.

Also, Megan Markle also apparently failed to curtsy the Queen.  The Poms (and colonials) are sticklers for their traditions.

$@&%!

Turning it off at three quarter time.  Ripped my heart out, this effort.

My team is giving me the same. Only the outcome. The effort and process is still there.

I don't post about travel really because what's the difference between one large city and the next?  But this week I'm in Phuket, Thailand (where I met Mrs Oz, she on holidays with her girlfriend and me on shore leave) where I'm delivering a speech at a conference.

The view from the hotel's pool (1st) and casual dining area (2cd) is spectacular.  I need conferences like this more often!

But the best bit is that Phuket has one of Thailand's best provincial boxing scenes and the fights last night were spectacular.  My pal and I splurged on absolute ringside tickets.  Who knows when we'll be back?  Three knockouts last night and every match was a hard battle.  Zoom in on the knockout photo and look at the knot on that guy's head which he got after taking repeated knees to the scone while caught in a grapple.  Thai boxing is brutal.  And fantastic.

Oz, you remind me of the couple that once asked me "had I ever been to Poland."

I replied, "No, but I can tell you where the Spooner hockey rink is."   :-[

Oz you are the man. We might not get to Thailand soon but all of us get to live vicariously through you this morning. That is hard core stuff sir.

Is a Thai Box any relation to a Thai Basket?

Ha, no worries, Old Auggie (and all). It's my pleasure.

Most of time travel is pretty ordinary and I would rather be at home but once in a while it's worth the hassle.

Another benefit of Asia Pacific travel is you sit on a plane with nothing to do for 8 hours but watch downloaded Netflix shows. A friend recommended Wild, Wild Country and it's fantastic. I barely remembered the story from when I was in high school but the events that happened are unbelievable.  I was stunned as I had no idea of the details. Six hours of riveting documentary that is informative, frightening, tragic, infuriating and rewarding all rolled into one.  I highly recommend it.

When the world's most controversial guru builds a utopian city deep in the Oregon desert, conflict with the locals escalates into a national scandal. A true story.

My Father In Law was a great fan of Muai Thai and one of his close friends was a tainer.  I really enjoyed going to the local fights in Khon Kaen with him, my wife is also a big fan.

Yeah, I agree it's good fun. I'm inspired to go see some real class in Bangkok at a big time boxing arena where the best fighters do their thing.  That's definitely going on my bucket list.

I thought I would give us D3 football fans something to do over the long offseason while we wait until football is back so I made a MIAC Football quiz on Sporcle.com...

https://www.sporcle.com/games/lineman7355/miac-football-quiz

Have some fun, let me know if I got anything wrong, and post your scores...and let me know if you want some more.  I'm working on some other D3 quizes and once I have a full list I'll post a link.
