Just a case of: If you can't beat em, trash em!

Y'all would kind of be the experts on that the last several years, eh?
I do not ever remember a Johnnie saying UST was a football program disguised as an institution of higher learning. We can have fun within limits.

Trashing takes on various forms.
Generally in good fun and I've got no issue with it.

So UST is opening the season with Trinity International University. Does anyone know anything about them?
Played them in hoops a couple times 2005 and 2006, pretty athletic squad.  Bethel beat them 59-21 in 1999.  Leslie Frazier was Trinity's first head coach.  He was head coach for 9 seasons from 88-96.  Massey has the spread at 24, but I think I'll put the pick em' number closer to 40.

I wouldn't call Mount Union a football program poorly disguised as an institution of higher learning. That statement just shows your stupidity and lack of information. Academics and athletics are not mutually exclusive. Besides the usual 4 year undergraduate degree programs, Mount has several Master degree programs as well as a recently added PhD program. All are fully accredited and have been recognized around the country as outstanding.
If being a great football power means you aren't a quality academic school, it's nice to be in the company of Alabama, Ohio State, LSU, Michigan, .............!

DIII is the land of massive variation in academics and enrollment sizes. It's part of what makes it a unique and fun misfit level of college athletics to follow. While MU may look up at a UST or SJU academically; UST and SJU are looking up at Johns Hopkins, MIT, or Williams too. The same goes for comparing enrollment between UWEC and Crown. It is what it is.

You'll have to excuse me. I graduated from Mount Union. I guess I missed your point. What you said is correct but  - so? Does that allow absurd, cheap shots? Let's trash talk football, not the institutions themselves. I hope my 3 graduate schools made up for inadequate undergraduate training at Mount!
I have an idea! Let's discuss football. (D3football.com). Or we can go to "myschool'sbetterthan your school.com"! Go Everybody! ☠🏈

My apologies if it came off as a cheap shot, it wasn't meant to be. What you noted is more or less the point I was trying to make. There is big variation in both enrollment sizes and academic rigor. And that arguments over whether it leads to on the field advantages are most always emotionally charged unproductive, because that has always been the case in Division III.

Someone from Williams, or even Carleton could belittle a UST grad too. I don't know where that would get them though

Each member college and university finds its niche and serves it mission differently. Furthermore specific programs within each institution can have reputations much loftier or smaller that's their school as a whole.

Agree with you wholeheartedly on the DIII love. My appreciation for it has grown with all of the scandals at the D1 level these days.

I'm sure MUC has lots of cash to spread around, given that it's known as such an academic powerhouse. Accredited undergraduate and graduate programs--the endowment must be huge. It this how they're able to provide "other types of aid" to the football team's many, many academic all-stars.

Hey Rev,

I am not sure what an academic powerhouse has to do with endowment except in reference to graduates pledging funds. If you use the football program as a guide to graduations you would find that the graduation rate of players under Larry Kehres was higher than his winning percentage on the football field. That winning percentage is the highest in the NCAA at all levels. Even above that of STU and the like. So from that we do have a lot of smart football players who graduate and contribute to the endowment which may or may not help some future smart players win another championship from a program less fortunate than STU.

By the way how's that Best Buy money working out for your endowment? Did they stop sending checks? You should be able to afford some high priced transfer students can't you? Just not smart ones. If you can't make it at The U There's always STU. Nobody who transfers there could possibly be smart....just free money maybe.

You might want to check out your last post highlighted in red. Smart very smart! Maybe a post grad typing class is available. You did graduate didn't you? I should have asked.

And as always and with love, The Tommies Suck! ;D

WELCOME TO THE MACHINE!

You caught a typo...good job. I'm not sure postgraduate typing courses would provide a good return on investment. With those highly regarded (or maybe it's just accredited) secretarial programs at MUC churning out so many graduates, the market is bound to be oversaturated. Of course, it's unlikely that you'll find many aspirant clerical workers on MUC's football team. I hear the most popular major is Criminal Justice. MUC awards course credits for "life experience," and this means some guys can get out the door and on to NFL tryouts in just two years.
